Economist Jeffrey Sachs issued a strong condemnation of President Trump's trade policies on Friday, calling the new steel and aluminum tariffs the start of a "psychopath's trade war."
In an op-ed for CNN, Sachs, who runs Columbia University's Center for Sustainable Development, blasted Trump's decision this week to implement stiff tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, a move that angered top U.S. allies including Canada, Mexico and the European Union (EU).
"Trump's trade actions are blatantly illegal. They are flimsily justified as an act of national security, but this is sheer nonsense," Sachs wrote.
"By instinct, we strive to make sense of Trump's nonsense, implicitly assuming some hidden strategy," he added. "There is none."
Sachs predicted that Trump's actions would have an overall negative effect on the U.S. dollar, and would lead to a rapid increase in the nation's debt.

(7,725 posts)we can have him evaluated by a three Psychiatrist panel? Sort of an Outpatient 72 hour commitment. If he's sick mentally from age or excess...he can't govern the executive, and has to be removed for an evaluation maybe. Where are all the Veterans and Soldiers and Sailors and Marines in general? They Swore an oath to protect this Country. Where is their voice now? How can they let this country they suffered for, slip away to the enemy?
You don't know what you've got...til it's gone. Believe me.

(51,626 posts)to say he is crazy since they are all destroying the very agencies they were hired to protect and support since they are raping the agencies and pocketing tons of $$$$... robber barrons). The GOP puts Party Over Country so there are no checks and balances anymore and he is free to do whatever he wants. Our system has failed us and we are in a constitutional crisis. The only ways to get rid of him are 2020 voting, he dies or has a major stroke, or Putin (or any angry person in general) says "enough is enough" and offs him or Mueller will take a shot at him but this will take a while since he can't be indicted (yet).
We are fucked. Every morning when I turn on the TV or read the news I am SO HOPEFUL that the news will say he kicked the bucket overnight...it is a dream that I hope comes true very, very soon. Like NOW!
In the meantime I focus my energy on resisting him any way I can. RESIST! REMOVE! Peace.

Part of the problem is we follow the rules to a fault...and they don't, and they get in power, and the whole things done. Can we afford to just stick w the rules as written?or interpret them another way to stave off a collapse of America from within
