But I do still love the United States, in spite of =45 and the Republicans. I'm hanging on to my hope.

(297,220 posts)been to Nova Scotia and all the Maritime Islands, Vancouver, and Niagara Falls! I wish I had gotten to Toronto while I was living in upper state New York.
I live on Kauai now and we're a melting pot.. but I love my country.. just not the asshole fascists who have taken over because of the Russians and those who enabled them.

(8,445 posts)Flin Flon, Manitoba. My first husband's hometown. At the time it was a 12 hour drive north of Winnipeg, but I think they've straightened out the road a bit. I think the population was about 10,000 at the time. I'd like to be there right now. I'm sure it's nice and cool, and we're at 88 degrees here at almost 9 p.m.
We partied in Winnipeg a lot at that time. Fun times.
I've only been to Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. I'd love to see BC. Maybe I'll make it to Vancouver one of these days. We went to Niagara Falls about a year ago, and then on to Toronto. Had a great time.
I don't have too much of a travel bug anymore, but I could definitely enjoy a road trip across Canada.
Cha
(297,220 posts)You're right.. a new one on me.
It's 78 degrees at 5pm here, and the warmest it's been since last summer. We're having an unusually cold(for us)and wet Winter/Spring.

(8,445 posts)Tourists don't get the real experience of a locale, as I'm sure you know. I have an acquaintance who lived for a few months in a tropical destination where cruise ships stopped. She said it was completely different when the ships came in from the way it was "normally". I wish I knew that reality when I was a whole lot younger and had nothing holding me back. I would be a rolling stone, for sure, maybe staying a couple of months before moving on to the next adventure.
You are so lucky to get to experience Hawaii. But I love it here in Colorado too.

(16,378 posts)I just got back from a Rox game and it was 92 F at Coors Field when the game started at 5:15. Hard to believe it's only June. Have a feeling it's going to be a killer summer. We already need rain.
Cha
(297,220 posts)Thanks for the report, LK!
As I said to Rorey.. well, it's 77 degrees now at 6:30pm.. we've had an unusually cold(for us) Winter and Spring.. and tons of rain this year.
Best of Luck on getting Rain there!

Based on Justins false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!

(21,566 posts)so to summarize, drumpf is trashing the French, Canadians, Germans and English on his way to talk to North Korea.
why is no one willing to openly say what is so obvious.... that he is working for Putin to destroy the Western alliances that have kept us at peace for so long?

(16,785 posts)ask that Trump's visit to the UK and meeting with the Queen be CANCELED!!!
Why should the British be put through such humiliation of a Trump visit? That means NO shopping spree at Harrods for Melania. No ride in the Golden coach. No state dinner with the Queen where Trump will have no say in what is for dinner.

(31,261 posts)If you are nearing 62, then you can't get Medicare, but if your company offers paid COBRA for 2 years, take that, it will bridge you to Medicare. Also, if you are nearing retirement and your company offers a buyout to avoid layoffs, take the buyout if you have been with the company a long time, the buyout may come with health insurance attached for 1 to 2 years. I have a brother who retired, one thing people retiring need to consider is how far they are from Medicare, a good healthcare policy can take a good chunk of most people's retirement income, you don't want to be biting your 401k early to pay for health insurance.
nini
(16,672 posts)I'm a couple years out from being able to survive. I was laid off in 2009 after being at a job 17 years. I got a whopping 2 weeks severance - as a manager. My 401k took a hit then. I've been at the company I'm at now for 8. I doubt they'd even do the pay off.
I've got equity in my home but that'll probably disappear too.
Awesome.

I always thought the stock market was apolitical.
Anyway, I agree with you. I think if it would go ahead and come down to where stocks are a little more reasonably priced it would be a good thing for investors. I feel we have to live on the edge with this bloated market and its like its more or less tried to die in this state.

(31,261 posts)The market has been doing nothing but going sideways for 3 months. During that time, the yield on the longbond has progressively increased. The shit will hit the fan soon and I don't think that Trump has the brainpower around him to deal with that.

He lost in reality by around 3 million votes. The stupid Electoral College has given us Dubya and the Iraq War, which led to ISIS, and now this abomination.
Hopefully we survive this evil fool and the brainless who voted for him.
