Ive had the pleasure of watching a lot of good news come out of New Jersey, my native state, since Chris Christie left the building. This headline is the opposite of good.
Grossman, running in South Jersey, has doubled down on his earlier statements about diversity, equating it with:
an excuse by Democrats, communists, and socialists, basically, to say that were not all created equal; that some people, if somebody is lesser qualified, they will get a job anyway, or theyll get into college anyway, because of the tribe that theyre with, what group, what box they fit into.
And he dearly yearns for the days when women did not work outside the home, when a single salary could support the family. You know those BIG families because the bare foot and pregnant era was just so-o-o good for women. Just conjure up the ghost of my dead mother; shell tell you all about the Happy Days of the 1950s, how blissful and satisfied she was.
And really when are African Americans going to get with the program, realize all those dirty Mexicans are gobbling up jobs?? Hop on the immigration gravy train, today!
Americana! Nostalgia. Rewritten history. Gotta love it.
I for one hope that Seth Grossman continues to double down, hug the Trumpsters knees and spout this garage to the heavens.
And while hes doing that I encourage my Democratic brothers and sisters to rally around Jeff Van Drew, Mr Grossmans opponent. Then Democrats will take back the South Jersey district from the Neanderthals who simply cannot accept the concept of extinction.

(10,828 posts)Grossman was clearly left behind, still yearning for the good ole days of protruding foreheads.

Oh, wait, no it isn't.
So much wrong in one candidate....Republicans really are the whole package. Just not a package most thinking people would want.

(10,828 posts)I don't know how any candidate gets this message to fly but there are still enclaves of the KKK in South Jersey, areas of strong white nationalism. This appeals to them but not much beyond the rage addicted. Weird though. Grossman is Jewish. The 1950s that he apparently yearns for was not exactly open to his own ancestral background.
How quickly people forget, turn a blind eye to the past that actually existed or compromise their own history for political ambition.

(31,810 posts)Horse Country too. I'm so sick of their Confederate Flag bumper stickers in Huntderdon. Like really? Really?
Any idea on how the DNC has rated your district? Tom Malinowski up in the 7th is viewed favorably for a flip from Lance.

(10,828 posts)I don't have any on-the-ground info. My husband and I are stuck in Tennessee at the moment, hoping to move back to the tri-state next year.
In any case simply from what I've read, Van Drew is a conservative Dem. His position on guns and gay marriage aren't going to thrill liberals. However, this was a Republican stronghold and any Dem is better than a Republican, particularly this Republican. It's a chance to flip another seat and that's all to the good. It's also a way of pushing the in-your-face bigots back under their rocks. They've always been there but the current atmosphere has given the wing-nuts license to say and endorse every outrageous and hurtful proclamation.
As for the Confederate flag? Yeah, lots of that down here. Not unexpected in this region where the Civil War never ended. In Jersey though? Infuriating and appalling.

(25,841 posts)women never worked outside the home. Middle class and upper class women didn't, but working class women did. Or they did some kind of paid work at home to help support the family, such as laundry for others.

(10,828 posts)In fact my grandmother took in laundry back in the day. And considered herself lucky to have the job.
