(18,372 posts)Why not criminal charges? Any individual who contributed to the charity did so under a false representation (probably only one of many).

(37,182 posts)I haven't seen anything that he's done that wasn't a crime.
He is shocked.

(19,755 posts)A civil case may be easier to win than a criminal conviction, and in the process the AG may gain a larger body of evidence which will allow criminal charges later which are more likely to succeed.

(12,051 posts)positions that have no work attached. That guy probably gets some dough for the use of his name, but guess what -- if he is the official treasurer, many states have laws that make the treasurer legally responsible. Period. I can assure him that the nominal money he was paid will not in the least offset what it is going to cost him.

(1,267 posts)Also boards on typical foundations, would have had board meetings and a person serving as treasurer would normally be required to attend these meetings
The board of directors is the governing body of a nonprofit. Individuals who sit on the board are responsible for overseeing the organization's activities. Board members meet periodically to discuss and vote on the affairs of the organization. At a minimum, an annual meeting must occur with all board members present.Dec 11, 2014

(1,267 posts)the original post says investigator told him was on the board and had been for more than a decade.
How would one explain that they didn't know that if they were both the treasurer and a board member, and the foundation was following through with their legal obligations?

(56,262 posts)I'm just saying I think he knew he was treasurer, he just didn't know he was also on the board.
How that happened, and how that could continue to be the case, if it's being run properly, I don't know.
But "if it's being run properly" is the key phrase here....

(4,066 posts)And, of course, we don't see Nunes or Gowdy falling all over themselves to investigate the Trump foundation.
On Edit: Since the NY AG found that the foundation was involved with the campaign it's now a matter for the House and Senate to investigate. But they won't.
