The suspect said he believed because of the violent reaction he had after smoking the drug, he was sold the wrong narcotic, department officials posted on Facebook Wednesday. Kelly told detectives in the drug unit he wanted the substance tested because he wanted to press charges on the person who sold him the wrong narcotic.
Detectives obliged Kellys request, telling him to come on down to the sheriffs office. He then drove to the facility and handed investigators a clear, crystal-like substance wrapped in aluminum foil that later tested for methamphetamine.
Kelly was charged with possession of methamphetamine and was walked next door to the Putnam County Jail, where he was ordered held on $5,000 bond, authorities said. He was released from custody late Wednesday, jail records show.
Remember, our detectives are always ready to assist anyone who believes they were misled in their illegal drug purchase, the department said in the Facebook post, which had been shared more than 35,000 times as of Thursday.
