Right-wing outrage machine bullies FBI director into making biased statements that swing election.

"The right-wing outrage machine managed to bully the FBI director into breaking FBI policy so that he made biased statements to the media that pushed the election towards Donald Trump. The bullying worked & that's why they are still doing it."

laptop and emails on it in September 2016 but waited until later October to disclose that info to the public via Chaffetz.

He timed it just right to influence the election so I don't know if anyone had to bully him. He was on board with tilting the election to trump.

Also remember he never revealed he was also investigating trump.

Comey knew exactly what he was doing and I'm not buying his "nice but naive guy", redemption campaign.

is that he was afraid that Republicans would go after him if Hillary won and would make a new e-mail style scandal out of... well, out off him not pursuing what was a bogus investigation to begin with. In essence, he was covering his ass, instead of doing his job.

But I think you're onto something. He was another Republican who put party over country. The irony is he's now despised by both sides, and the people he helped cheat their way into power have now turned on him.

properly Hillary would be president with no complaint, he'd still be director of the FBI, and his reputation for integrity would be intact. Why did he do it? Was he working alone?

Comey is hardly the first person to use the stupid but well meaning defense.

As said, hat month when Comey delayed showing the right wing how "on" it he was. The OIG report admitted his story there was "unconvincing." Of course, McCabe's action with the WSJ that lead to his firing. The Manhattan FBI office and what did Giuliani know and when? The FBI's announced "closing" right before the election of the Bill Clinton pardon investigation from over 15 years before?

On Trump's side, how about the NYT October 31 article that the FBI had them rewrite, over the journalists' protests, so that it helped Trump by suggesting the Russia investigation was a nothingburger? I remember reading that article. It confused me at the time, but it clearly suggested they weren't finding anything of significance.

Why didn't the DNC know the Russians were running free in their computer systems while the FBI watched?

From the New Yorker - why do people leave out this info?

Comey's letter was brief and, evidently, carefully stated. Remarkably, though, its release wasn't accompanied by any contextual information or background briefing to either lawmakers or the press. It made its way to much of the media in the form of a tweet posted shortly before 1 p.m. by Jason Chaffetz, the Republican Congressman from Utah who chairs the House Committee on Oversight, and who is a longtime Clinton tormentor. "FBI Dir just informed me, ‘The FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation,’ ” Chaffetz's tweet said. "Case reopened."

He knew Chaffetz would go public with it.

If he was really just trying to do his duty he would've checked those emails before contacting anyone. He would've found they were just duplicates.

IMO he already knew that since he knew of the emails in September and had plenty of time way before Oct. 28 to look into what was on Weiner's laptop.

These guys think they're so smart but the true always comes out, as it will on trump.

Come on. Comey was a long-time Washington hand. He knows how the leak game is played.

You think he sent a letter to Chaffetz about Weiner's laptop because he thought Chaffetz would keep such damaging info about Clinton's campaign quiet?

Puh-leeze!

Comey wanted it out there but covered himself by sending it to another partisan hack like himself who he knew would go public with it, thereby preserving his "good guy" image while also reserving the right to say, "Don't blame me, I didn't release it".

And btw, it came out yesterday that Comey found out about the so-called "new" emails on Weiner's laptop in September but sat on that info until late October. No way he didn't have that laptop examined way before Oct. 28th. IMO he knew the emails were duplicates and played kingmaker by manipulating public opinion away from Clinton with the public re-opening of the email investigation 11 days before the election.

The FBI Director Comey was well aware of the Hatch Act but partisan hack Comey got the better of him and did everything he could to get a fellow repug elected.

As they get preferential treatment from the government (unconstitutionally) and dominate everything in this country, they keep telling themselves that they are persecuted.

There's a reason why the evangelicals are Trump supporters: This kind of bullshit always begins in church.

The megacorp media for profit, including (perhaps especially) Facebook, pushed the GOP Trump carefully crafted propaganda lines, because they like turning easy walks into horse races. For profit. In this case aided and abetted by propaganda counter-intelligence master Vladimir Putin.

that Comey made a mistake but that it was a CYA move cause he really thought Hillary was going to win and his name would be drug through the mud by the RW media for years. There might even be Benghazi-style investigations/hearings into why he didnt say anything about it by the GOP in Congress. Was he in the tank for Hillary? Was there a conspiracy to elect Hillary?

In the end we'll never know how much it hurt her/helped Trump, but it certainly played into the Trump narrative.
