(19,201 posts)'Tack' is an old sailing term, meaning to change direction of the boat by moving the sails from one side of the mast to the other, and then steering the boat in that direction.
'Tact' is something Trump doesn't have.
I don't usually correct folks, but I'm an old sailor and that one drives me nuts. However, it's a short drive.

(10,023 posts)Spent many hours in a small sailboat with my amateur sailor Dad tacking into our small bay. Finally, when I was old enough, I bought him a trolling motor.
I considered looking it up before I posted, in fact might have changed it from tack to tact (mistakenly thinking it would be fine either way -short for tactic?) but figured anyone that cared would know what I meant.

(14,492 posts)That would only give tRump political ammunition with his base and cost him very little. I personally would be delighted to see them even shut his businesses down but it won't change this hard-right protectionist cabinet's views.
The only way to get this administration's attention is to target the wallets of his voter base 'till they holler "uncle". The big downside is it will also hurt a lot of working poor folks and good Democrats, too. But, that's what tariffs do - on both sides of a border!

(19,201 posts)I think the effect on Trump's bottom line would be negligible. By sticking it to the Trump cult they'll get the message that 'Dear Leader' is is playing a game that's hurting them in the wallet. It will be hurting all Americans, but Democrats and Independents are already hurting having that incompetent buffoon in the White House. The Trumptards are the people that need to be hurt, and thus far they've been nothing but overjoyed with their cult hero's John Wayne imitation.

(14,492 posts)Two good articles I read this morning:
As trade war with China looms, U.S. readies second wave of duties
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trade-china-tariffs/as-trade-war-with-china-looms-u-s-readies-second-wave-of-duties-idUSKBN1JB0M8
and
4 things to watch as Trump's tariffs hit China

Apparently, tRump thinks he can bully his way around the globe without consequences. Unfortunately, the consequences mostly come out of our pockets. Wall Street can hedge itself against these actions, but we cannot.

(19,201 posts)more than anything else I believe. He would go ballistic! You don't mess with his daughter/girlfriend/wife and get away without paying the price. That one might give him the coronary we're all hoping for.

(19,201 posts)can't afford the Trump brand items. That's why so many of his "great ideas" go down the crapper. Who wants to pay a premium price for overpriced inferior products? Some foreigners might believe Trump is a successful businessman, but most Americans know better.
