I've been crying on and off all night about these children. I've been listening to the news while preparing a lecture (have to do this at night when everyone else is asleep), and I have been weeping as I work. Mika said a lot of things that needed to be said. My Senators are DiFi and Kamala Harris, so I know they are on this. That helps some. I have screamed at the television and wept for hours. I will try to sleep a bit now.

US judges need to remember that German judges were not safe from being criminally charged during the Nuremberg Trials.

My husband's Jewish, and I once read intensively about the Holocaust. To conflate this with the death camps in eastern Europe would be to diminish that massive genocide to what Japanese Americans suffered through our WWII internment and theft of their property. These places are concentration camps, though, and we are right to worry about the wellbeing of children cared for by the kind of people who will follow bad, highly immoral orders from bad leaders.
