Asking for you to guess: How many Deplorables are there, really?

Yeah, 60 million voted for Trump.

Of those, I suspect, are not an insignificant number who were voting for the ( R ) more than the man. It could have been out of habit, out of mistrust of liberals, or perhaps out of dislike for HRC.

Then there are the ones who voted for Trump, and would have done so no matter his party affiliation/usurpation. Out of that bunch, some were there more because they saw him as a self made man who could help them get rich, too than any particular ideology. And then there are the true haters. The ones who hate minorities, who see women as second class humans, and who want to do ANYTHING to hurt us "libtards" in any way possible. Those are the Deplorables. How many of them do you think there are?

My own guess, and it is purely that, a guess, is 20-25 million.

What do you think? More or less? Is my definition of them wrong? Are all Trump voters Deplorables, maybe?

50% of Trump's support, 30 million give or take. The other 50% could be categorized as being among the present-day equivalent of "Good Germans".

I agree there is an urban/rural divide. I also agree that in rural areas people tend to be more conservative. But look at demographics. More urbanites that ruralites.

And, yes, demographics are very important.
Much fewer brown and black people in smaller towns.
Bigotry is bred in to so many small town white folks because they have been taught to be afraid of people that don’t look and think and worship as they do.

The ones I talked to are not Trump supporters. They said that their friends and colleagues that voted for Trump in 2016 are firmly entrenched with Trump and have not changed their opinions after all the evidence that has mounted up against Trump through the Mueller investigation. In fact they said that they have 'dug in' even further in support of Trump.

I keep on saying - we can't take the Blue Wave for granted. In my mind the Dems are waiting too long to change the perceptions of the electorate. They should have started their 2018 campaign long ago. Again - Trump is not running for office in 2018. The Repugs are. It needs to be pointed out that the Repugs have - under the cover of Trump - got away with murder and help change this country in Trump's image.

We need to mount a GOTV campaign like never before. This 2018 election needs to be historic. It needs to have the most Americans voting in an election than ever before.

We know the Repugs will pull out all the stops to lie, cheat and steal 2018 and with the help of the Russians whom they have not done anything to prevent the Russian influence in 2016 from happening again in 2018.

The only way that we'll be able to counteract the Repugs - is to have such a massive voter turnout that they can't possibly - lie, cheat and steal - that many votes to keep them in power.

We need to take back - at least the House - to put Trump in check for the remaining two years of his term. If we fail - I'm convinced that Trump and the Repugs will maintain their power base in 2020 and if they do - we're really screwed.

GOTV!!!!!! Make the 2018 Midterms the most historic election in the history of the United States. We need to strive for 100% turnout of the Dems. If we set that as a goal - maybe the actual turnout will be such that we'll crush the Repugs and twart the Russians interference.

silent as best they can. The Dems also need a short succinct list of what we stand for in TV ads aired over and over again. It does not need to be long and expensive. The Dems have always had IMO a significant problem with effective messaging. I feel we are behind the 8 ball.

for my grandma's funeral in the summer of 2016 I saw Trump signs in nearly every yard as I was out in the country looking for my great grandpa's grave. I also encountered some of the most unfriendly people as I tried to negotiate the tight roads. I have no intention of ever returning.

Its just 10 - 15% of Trump voters in key states who need to be brought back to the light.

Of course, we can also GOTV and bring apathetic voters who are demographically Democratic to the polls, too.

"Populist" movements seldom have majority status, historically. Most people tend to ignore shit and just keep their heads down and do their jobs.

Your breakdown is probably pretty accurate as an educated guess.

Regardless of the reasons, they knowingly voted for a racist pussy grabber. It doesn't matter if some of them may have been conned by some other message they think they heard. The white POV isn't the default. White people aren't the only ones suffering or dealing with issues in this country. There is no excuse. If they were targeted by racist messaging and they fell for it, then they are deplorable.
