Indifference is our biggest threat, not Trump, not his Deplorable followers

The largest voting group in 2016 is those voters that did not vote. Instead of focusing on appealing to Deplorables, who are beyond reaching, we, as Democrats, need to focus our attention on the indifferent voter. Why don't they vote and what gets them to vote? Is it barriers to actually voting like time, registration issues, etc. Is it policy? Do we have the kind of policy positions that appeal to them? Do our values as progressives/Democrats appeal to them?

We're all familiar with the quote about how evil succeeds when good people do nothing. The key to defeating Trump and his Deplorables is to get good people to vote.

Everyone who is highly motivated to vote will do so. What does it take to get the indifferent ones to vote?

Everyday we are inundated with a smorgasbord of breaking news headlines regarding the latest Trump scandal du jour. There's no end of media speculation about Trump's nefarious intent, and in depth monographs publicize the corruption that is baked so deeply into his administration that it has become the norm. Heartbreaking photos memorialize the brutality that is done in our name, and streaming video dutifully shows us the moral depravity of the man elected by people so deplorable they looked to Trump as their cult idol.

It overwhelming. For days on end I'm buried alive by the sheer volume of news articles documenting the egregious decisions made by this petty despot in the Oval Office. I can't keep up. There simply isn't enough hours in the day to pay attention with any due diligence or examine, analyze, verify, or understand everything that's happening in a 24/7 news cycle.

Trump is winning the media wars. I'm at the point of indifference, filtering through what newsy bits I can quickly absorb and letting the rest fall away. The media is too complicit, offering me, the consumer of their product, far too little non-fiction content over sensationalism and opinions.

Right now, we just have to fire up the base and reach out to those who vote but not usually in mid-terms (young people, in particular).
