Man I been cool but...

Now I'm honestly starting to freak the fuck out. This feels like Germany 1934. Trump says he wants Americans to "respect" him the way North Koreans "respect" Kim Jong Un. Now he insists on a summit with master Putin. He wants a military parade in the streets.
He's propped up by gun toting racists and xenophobes who don't care much what he does as long as it feeds their anger and insecurities. He commits flagrant human rights violations at the border, demonizes the free press, empowers white supremacists all over the country, destroys every standing alliance with liberal democracies from Canada to Western Europe to South Korea and Japan. Puts himself above the law and vilifies the law enforcement officials investigating HIM...

We gotta get this bastard out, the world is hinging on it.

I think what really put me over the edge was the murals. The damn fascist dictator murals of orange shitler in the child internment camps. I never thought people or America were as good as it seemed when Obama was elected despite all the hope and feelings of justice and empowerment... there was always a dark underbelly, racists misogynists. But I never thought this would be possible in my lifetime.

I'm a teacher on break for the summer with a small 40 acre farm full of dairy goats, tomatoes, and honeybees. I was texting back and forth with a colleague. She said just relax go out and enjoy your farm these things take time. And I'm tempted to do just that but I'm honestly starting to fear that if I do that I'll come off the farm in August and they will be goosestepping down the street. That poem by Martin Niemöller is echoing in my head...

but I hear you. Yes you should go walk around your farm and visit everybody who inhabits it...we need to you recharge your batteries because this is a marathon not a sprint.

I am still optimistic that we are much more enlightened than 1930's Germany.

Uncles and Cousins tell you the same story,my friend it gets real damn quick. Still remember that day in 1947,Mothers Day,Great Grandmother and the survivors of her family, had just arrived from Switzerland a few days before and road the Train from New York to Wisconsin to be with her Daughter my Grand mother. The Stories and Pictures were a reminder of the NY Times front page Picture and Story earlier this week.

If the dems win back only the House this fall, McConnell will continue to confirm the young, radical judges Trump is nominating & we'll be fucked for decades. It's not looking good for the USA.

but if it is assure it stays Dem and once they are done with demonizing the rest of us they will continue to try to attract rural farmers like the nazi farmer rallies in Germany
Can you safely resist at that point?

Rauner has about zero chance. He was nearly primaried and the democratic candidate Pritzker got significantly more votes than him and his opponent combined. Like a lot of states, however, the rural areas where I live are very red. People don't care about anything but god and guns and making sure they are better off then black people as W.J.Cash would say. Unlike the Iowas Indianas and Missouris, however, Chicago is big enough to keep the statewide races blue.

6. One huge difference between Trump and Hitler...

Is that the lion's share of the German people thought he was doing a great job for Germany. They had ALL suffered from the aftermath of World War I, and there was high confidence that he was just the guy to have the solutions to their problems all figured out. This was BEFORE the death camps and the genocide.

Trump does NOT have the support of the majority of the American people. He has support of maybe a third. He lost the popular vote in the last election by a wide margin, and that was with all the help that Russia and our own domestic voter suppression could give him. Since the election, most of the voters in this country have had the opportunity to see him at work and now have him completely figured out. The majority of this country now either doesn't like him or hates him with a burning passion. But there is still that one third. If it makes you feel better, we outnumber them two to one.

They are good points. But the math seems optimistic. His approval rating is holding steady at 41.5% according to 538 no matter what embarrassing and disgusting shit he does.

8. A majority of this country does not like this man.

41% is less than 50%, last time I checked. And again, that's with all the statistical help he can get. Most of the country doesn't like him, even hates him.
