6. I wonder how a regular person gets an armored vehicle.

All I can guess is Army surplus or police surplus auctions, if they do that sort of thing for presumed military equipment.

My other guesses are it's stolen or an employee with access lost his mind.

@8NewsNow In a photo sent to 8 News NOW from Keith Aronson, the suspect has notes taped to the window of the vehicle he's barricaded in. One note says "Mr. President release the reports," according to a passerby.

They sell them off used from the armored car companies.

The military doesn’t sell anything with armor surplus, it’s cut up and scrapped.

I remember Steven Segal doing a ride along with the police in some sort of heavy vehicle.

Granted, I don't know the distinctions between the types that are out there.

15. Surplus Humvees are sold to civilians.

They are generally stripped of any military equipment, including most armor. That said, you can easily buy an older armored apc or even a tank if you have the money. There is a guy in my county in Michigan who owns an old Romanian T72 main battle tank. In this case, it looks like a bank type armored truck. Probably an old Brinks truck that was sold at auction.

18. The military program actually only loans that stuff

Some non armored equipment like pickup trucks and generators can be had by local governments, be it police or schools or fire departments, on programs that generally transfer ownership for a small processing fee.

Stuff like armored vehicles or weapons are not sold and ownership is not transferred, rather it is loaned. The agency getting it has to meet requirements for how it’s stored, used and inventories and when they no longer need it they have to return it to the military for disposal.

For the most part if it is an item they would sell as surplus normally they would transfer it to the agency. If it is something that would be destroyed and sold as scrapped it is only loaned and must be returned where the military will then scrap it.

13. "Steel Soldiers" is a good website for surplus and reconditioned military vehicles. I never saw

anything like this on there. Years ago I was interested in buying one of the old Nam-era jeeps, but I got over it. Haven't been on there in years but I think it is still pretty popular with collectors, rebuilders, etc
