Trump's 35% base is his base, and will enthusiastically stay with him.
But 10-15% of his vote was marginal Democrats (some who previously voted for Obama) who went with Trump because they didn't like Clinton, or because they just wanted to shake things up.
I see the immigrant families story metastasizing because it's easy to understand and it's easy for non-base voters to empathize, especially as pictures circulate. If Trump refuses to give in, and the Republican House refuses to challenge him on this, I forsee a secondary wave shifting votes to the the Democrats in November.

(2,226 posts)Democrats will be so upset they will give him his wall for the kids. This is a kidnapping blackmail scheme. All he cares about is the wall. It would be good to know how much money is coming out of the treasury to pay for this disgusting scheme.
