As an Independent.
Claire is jumping for joy somewhere.

(1,028 posts)And a number of hardcore cons think he was framed by both parties. (Ha!)
He could split just enough of the votes from Hawley. Claire needs to cover his filing fee because this will benefit her.
Radio said sources close to him think he still wants a presidential run in the future.

He does think he is All That and then some.
I almost think that this his payback to the GOP for pushing him out of office (because the sexual assault, and the breaking of election laws - not his fault - in his mind.) It doesn't seem possible that he actually thinks that he could win. But then again.... Delusion seems to be an asset to those on the far fringe right.

(29,674 posts)And became a Republican when he ran for Governor. His opponent, Chris Koster, was a Republican who became a Democrat.
It's OK if you're lost. It's a messed up situation.

(10,272 posts)I was being mostly sarcastic.
Politics here is about winning not necessarily about party affiliation. If you're on the ballot as a Republican THIS TIME, that's mostly what the local deplorables care about...round here, they've got short memories lol

(29,674 posts)2016 was a tough election to explain to outsiders.

(10,272 posts)And I'll say this: I can't remember the last time a Democratic anything got elected to more than one Statewide term here. I may not agree with McCaskill on ALL of her policy positions of the past, but she damnsure gets full marks from me for being smart enough to still be in office.

(29,674 posts)Because I admitted to being one of those who "crossed the line" in 2012. Claire has always been our best bet in that seat and I've done what was needed to keep her in it. I voted Republican in the August 2012 primary to help the weakest candidate get the nomination. Between those who crossed and the TV ads Claire released targeting him as the most conservative, it worked. No one predicted he would say something that offensive but getting the nomination was through some haggling.
I filled in Akin on a primary ballot for her. I have no problem signing a petition getting Governor Graytape on the ballot.

(13,524 posts)Just when Missouri Republicans were beginning to recover from the long, divisive nightmare that finally ended when GOP governor Eric Greitens resigned on May 29, the worst of all possible scenarios has emerged from the smoking crater of the one-time wonder boys career. Heres the report from Missouri radio station KZRG:
Former Missouri Governor Eric Greitens could be back in the political spotlight a lot quicker than most thought.
The Republican is entertaining the idea of running for one of Missouris two U.S Senate seats, but not on the Republican ticket, but as an Independent.
Missouri has a provision that would allow Greitens to run as an Independent as long as he gets at least 10,000 signatures of registered voters by July 30th.

(1,028 posts)I'd rather not take my chances considering this age of Trump.
We need to promote McCaskill and get her elected. Not promote creepy GOP bastards.
Sherman A1
(38,958 posts)Some information on his potential run and perhaps some hope that he will get in and be a spoiler for Hawley, which would help McCaskill win in November. If he runs as an independent he would not need to run in the GOP Primary as he would not be part of the Republican Party, be it an open primary or not. This is a discussion about the November election and not the primary in August.
xmas74
(29,674 posts)I know we have open primaries.
The August primary has no effect on Greitens. He is not primarying for a party nomination. He is running as an Independent and must have 10,000 valid signatures by July 31, I believe. If he achieves this he will be on the ballot for the November GE, where his spoiler status could assist McCaskill.
Politics is dirty. Missouri has a nasty history of dirty politics, going back to Pendergast. Sometimes you have to play the game to win and as long as it's not out and out illegal, such as suppression, you get it done.

(29,674 posts)He's doing this for revenge against the GOP and Josh Hawley, the candidate who is the presumed primary winner.
Once again it's predicted to be a tough race for McCaskill. Anything drawing away from Hawley is good for her.
This is how the game is played in Missouri. People cross party lines to vote for weak candidates in primaries.

(29,674 posts)There are a few on this thread who are confused. Those of us living in Missouri are ready to sign the damn petition, just to watch the vote split in November.
First Akins, now Greitens. McCaskill is a lucky woman.

(29,674 posts)Burning the GOP on November. He's angry that he was pushed out of office by his own party so this is his chance to blow up their best shot at taking Claire's seat.
Split that crazy repug hater vote, yeah, that's the way to ensure Claire wins!! What a fucking ass he is, reminds me of drumpf, just not as bad.

Nothing says signing it declares a vote for him.
Tell all your in-state friends and hopefully some of them will sign too. I live in FL, but hoping this gets done.
