(21,188 posts)Brains poisoned by all the agricultural chemicals in the atmosphere. Have driven though there several times with the windows closed because the smell is so atrocious. An African American friend of mine grew up there and moved back to care for her elderly mother. After her mother passed she couldnt wait to move back to Las Vegas. She said there were so many stupid bigot hillbillies she couldnt get out of there fast enough.

The smell is factory farm dairy operations, cows that will never walk on green grass hillsides.

(4,238 posts)and as others have pointed out, its a pretty shitty red area. I hope Janz does well, and maybe if the DCCC spent some resources there he might, but itll be an uphill battle.

Seriously though, the coast and most of the large Urban Centers lean Democratic, but there are areas of California that are as Red as Tennessee.
Here is an article from 2014 from the Sacramento Bee that illustrates some of the oddity of California, especially Orange County and the San Joaquin Valley.

Nunes District is in the Eastern part of Fresno County, Tulare, and Visalia, not in the metro Fresno area. Lots of conservative farmers and ranchers out there.
