(21,024 posts)He was in there talking to those people, trading information and stirring resentment against Hillary on Trump's behalf. Comey had lost control of that office.

(53,743 posts)it came out a couple of days ago that Comey found out about the alleged "new" emails on Weiner's laptop in September '16, not late October.
No way in hell do I think he sat on that info for a month without having that laptop examined, and of course the emails on that laptop would've been found to be nothing but duplicates of what were found months agonothing new.
Seems he was playing possum in the OP interview just as he played possum on the 28th of Oct. when he sent the letter to Chaffetz (who he counted on taking it public), that "new" emails were found and the investigation of Clinton's emails was being re-opened.
All bullshit, IMO he was feigning being upset about the anti-Hillary faction in the NY FBI office as he himself held the same bias against her and sent the letter to Chaffetz to derail her campaign with a true October surprise.
The bastard was successful and no amount of sanctimonious, redemption-seeking posturing and book, and interviews hyping the book will erase the fact that he played a tremendous part in inflicting the country with the dangerous unstable, self-dealing would-be-dictator now posing as president.
He needs to be in jail for what he did.

(53,743 posts)going to be in a great position with trump but after the election the Putin election meddling became public and Comey could no longer hide that he was also investigating trump.
My guess is Putin and his bots hadn't become public he would've secretly held that over trump's headala J Edgar Hoover himself.

(32,606 posts)to do what he wanted to do. The NY FBI office did not make him go out and have that press conference to announce the findings in July. That was the job of the DOJ to decide to prosecute or not and announce the decision. DOJ found out what he was doing from the tv, just like the rest of us. He should have been fired immediately.

But they didn't brief Comey about them till October 27th. Why did they wait? If they had told Comey about them in September, they could have been quickly reviewed and there would have been no need to even consider making them public.
I think they hid them from Comey because he wasn't one of the "good" ones.

(32,606 posts)I saw a discussion about this part on tv (don't remember which show) and it seems this section of the report is muddled. Apparently there is supposed to be another IG report on the New York problems that may clear this up.

(21,024 posts)He had lost control up there and needed a strong move to win them back. Guys who hate Hillary are uniformly misogynistic. And nothing impresses the boys like beating up a woman. If anyone played him it was Rudy.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,609 posts)I'm not saying Comey didn't screw up. But in his book and other public statments there's not the slightest hint that he was trying to prevent Clinton from being elected; in fact, one factor that influenced his actions (although it shouldn't have) was his assumption that she was going to win. Considering also how favorably he spoke of Obama in the book, I really don't think his motivation was political; it was pretty clearly his misguided belief that he had to be sure the FBI didn't look like it was favoring Clinton. He put the FBI's and his own reputation (or his assumption about it) ahead of the DoJ's policy of carefully avoiding any actions that could influence an election, which was arrogance but not political bias. And now it appears that in late September some "good FBI agents" from the NY office came to Devin Nunes and told him theyd found Anthony Weiner's laptop with Huma Abedins emails to/from Clinton - but those "good" agents withheld that information from Comey until Oct. 27 - too close to the election to complete an investigation of them. Comey should have shut up about them nevertheless, but there's a whole lot more to the story.

Traitor Nunes should never, ever, ever be viewed as a source on DU.
I think Comey has been playing possum all along and had just as much bias against Hillary as the NY rogue agents. He feigned being afraid of them going public with the "new" email story as his reason for the Oct. 28th letter.
IMO that wasn't the reason at all. He has long had a misogynistic hate for Hillary as witnessed by the long, mid-summer investigation and public chastising, and then the phony re-opening of the investigation in Oct, 2016.
He moved on Hillary hate and partisan hackism to tilt the election to another repug. He's now trying to redeem himself because of the disaster he helped bestow upon the country.

(111,052 posts)Most specifically in the NY office. They put a lot of pressure on Comey and I'm sure Nunes was going public with the story about Weiner's emails if Comey did not promise to take another look at Hillary's emails. He was extorted by members of Congress and agents within the FBI, some of them senior officials.
