(58,785 posts)have come to is worrisome, but I've read that Methodists have always been a more socially advanced and activist denomination than many. Obviously not all members. But Hillary Clinton is a lifelong Methodist.
Wright said the group's goal in filing charges was to prompt such discussions.
"I hope his pastor can have a good conversation with him and come to a good resolution that helps him reclaim his values that many of us feel he's violated as a Methodist," Wright said.

(3,439 posts)hypocrite, fake Christian --thanks, best news I've heard all day! By the way, I've not seen hide nor hair of Pence, did he slither back under a rock...hope they [ the real Christian's] go after him too.
P.s. Earlier today...Melanie "the so called practicing catholic" repeated her husband's talking points, hate to see kids suffer but dems congress, both sides she said need to do something...LIE! Your racist husband can stop this now, with one phone call.

(38,958 posts)has a series of bylaws or rules of some sort in order to function. I am very happy to see the United Methodists are taking this seriously and working within their system to address this reprehensible behavior in a means available to them.

(5,737 posts)Also, was raised in the United Church of Christ. They are even more liberal! Expect them (and the Presbyterians) to follow suit.

(61,698 posts)the UMC is still bogged down in LGBTQ clergy and marriage issues, but that is also a reflection of our society.
The supporters of this policy are doing so as trump supporters.

(8,013 posts)As the older members die out (members go to conference and vote on rules) the church will change. There are many already pushing for that change. A lot of the very old just simply do not understand what it really is all about. I remember my mother and grandmother not having a clue what it even was (their first thought was Sodom and Gomorrha and orgies).

(53,410 posts)I imagine if youre a believer in an angry, jealous, vengeful, punishing god you wouldnt want to piss that god off. If your church royalty get pissy at you is gods wrath far behind?
If the Pope admonishes a Catholic person for ungodly behavior what would that person feel when gods personal representative on Earth scolded him? Ill wager visions of eternal damnation would come to mind.
Ultimately its the idea of gods punishment that keeps religious people in check.

(804 posts)There are some very conservative churches, but most are open, diverse, and welcoming like the one I belong to. In addition, most are fully supportive of social justice. He must belong to one of those very few more conservative congregations. Even one of those churches would find this policy disturbing. If there is a large movement to confront him spiritually, he will probably just become a Southern Baptist or a Pentecostal church member in one of those "evangelical" churches, among other 45 supporters.. People like this like to use their religiosity when it benefits them in achieving certain outcomes, however, it is very apparent that this weasel is a long, long, way from practicing true Christian principals.
