2. Let's not get ahead of events

By the time the "We can't reunite the families" atrocity occurs, we need to have at least two other humanitarian catastrophes so that we can all appreciate those halcyon days when everyone was so jazzed about the initial breaking up of the families. That way, today's heinousness won't seem to bad by comparison, and the time lag will cause people to forget the intensity of today's feelings.
