DU anyone know about the parents already deported trying to find their kids left behind ?
I was watching MSNBC yesterday, don't remember which program, and they mentioned something about these people having to buy phone cards to call the number given to get information. These people live in poverty and I. am sure whatever charity organization on the ground down there with them will be struggling to help them reach out to get in touch. We take our cell phones and technology for granted here in the USA. If there is a program set up to help purchase these phone cards for the ones deported I would like to donate or get in touch with the charity on the ground helping the folks with making the phone calls.
Thanks,
Solly Mack
(90,761 posts)Lawyers are needed both here and in the home country to help get the kids back - and it will have to be pro bono or through monetary donations/crowd sourcing.
On MSNBC it as said that there were no mechanisms for helping people get their kids back. That the "info" sheet handed out to parents simply said they had to make calls - not who to call, how to call, or anything else.
No procedure in place.
Procedure to take the kids -but none to get them back.

(5,122 posts)Lawyers are needed for sure. I know these folks live in extreme poverty. I just think about how hopeless it might seem to do something we take for granted. Make a phone call. When you have no money to buy this phone card to get minutes to go to this phone bank to even use a phone in the first place to even try to get information.
Hopefully lawyers will take up their cases, but in the meantime, I think its a small thing that can be done that would mean a lot.
