Source: NYT, by Kim SeversonAnthony Bourdain did not have narcotics in his body when he died this month, a French judicial official said.

There were none, save for the trace of a nonnarcotic medicine in a therapeutic dose, Christian de Rocquigny, the local prosecutor in charge of the investigation, said in a text message to The New York Times.

Mr. Bourdain was cremated in France and his remains and travel belongings were sent to his younger brother and only sibling, Christopher. The family will likely have a small, private ceremony of some kind, said Gladys Bourdain, his mother.

Ms. Bourdain, a former editor at The New York Times, said she planned to get Tony tattooed in small letters on the inside of her wrist next week as a personal memorial to her son.
She said she was never a fan of Mr. Bourdains tattoos, which chronicled his culinary journeys. But she plans to use his tattoo artist. It will be her only tattoo.

(13,462 posts)I have found it impossible to watch his shows again yet. Horrible loss.

(7,517 posts)I watched the shows from Berlin and Cajun country that aired after his death and enjoyed them up to a point. It was part of my processing, which is still going on. No I didn't know him but like millions of others was inspired by him and what he was doing to bring understanding of other cultures and people to the world. It still makes me so sad but we have to move on eventually.

When it doesn't hurt so much.
This Sunday is his final Season 11 show - "Bhutan" at the foot of the Himalayas.

(7,517 posts)I agree about the Cajun show. I think the one from Bhutan could be special. I can only watch them in the right frame of mind, though, right now. Maybe that will change in the future.
Oh Anthony you are so missed.

(16,104 posts)He frequently mentioned his reliance on Lipitor especially when eating French food!
I'd like "some reason" that would make sense to me. Maybe we'll get one. Maybe we won't.
Maybe when, if we get that impulse, make a call first:

(13,462 posts)Even though I know, as a depression sufferer myself, that the term "reason" doesn't even make sense in the context of that mental health monster.

I have a little group of "peers" my age that I keep an eye on to see how well we are aging.

That show in Rio with a kick boxing Ottavia was hard to re-watch

(16,104 posts)While often described as divorced - it seems that it wasn't so.
When Asia Argento and Anthony Bourdain became an item, I never heard about his wife Ottavia. It's amazing what we don't know about celebrities.

And that made me cry at work.

(32,634 posts)The OP article seems to be quoting Anthony's mother Gladys Bourdain who's still living even though his father passed when Anthony was in his early teens. The NYT article doesn't quote his former wife Ottavia, at least not in this excerpt.
