"If the left is not careful, they will overplay their hand on the border issue and squander the goodwill that America feels towards these families. Now is NOT the time to try and leverage this in an effort to solve all of the important immigration issues. Reunite families first."
He is very much a strategic thinker.

(6,377 posts)1. Focus on uniting the families and leave immigration reform for later.
With Republicans controlling the House and Senate, Democrats won't be able to get what they want in immigration reform anyway.

Block whatever hot mess the Rs serve up for reform, but rescue the kids.

just reuniting families.
Why does he think otherwise -- what am I missing?

that the GOP put forth. First, they will likely be horrendous like the two that failed last week, second it would pretty much indicate that Trump's hostage taking has worked. First, we pressure Trump and his ilk to reverse course and get the kids out, then we can talk about honest immigration reforms if the GOP is up to it.
