Trump is having a trade war with several countries. These countries are not raising tariffs on each other, just the United States. That should mean that the US is hurt more that the other countries. Instead of having a global recession, it could just be the US that has a substantial economic downturn. By not backing down, These countries could be increasing the possibility that Trump is not reelected.
