But as the Democratic Leader of the House, Nancy Pelosi was forced to make a statement because McCarthy was making a lot of hay over Maxine's comments.

It is clear to me that Pelosi is calling out Trump for provoking people.

Arguing over Nancy Pelosi's tweet is a distraction from what Trump is doing. Move on.

is not helpful. Anything that can be used by the right wing extremists to launch their BS catchy one liners against the Dems, is not helpful.

And as far as "when they go low we go high".....that was so 2014ish. I want strong rebuttals when the extreme right wingers lob their BS through the media. Don't drop to their level, but don't go Gandhi either (With all due respect to the great great Mahatma Gandhi).

16. Do not go gentle into that good night
Mon Jun 25, 2018, 12:26 PM

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I can't definitively say that Pelosi was going after Waters but it sounds like she was making a general statement about the responses to Trump's recent actions and the reactions of anti-Trump protesters. I would interpret it to include the protesters who yelled at Nielsen at the Mexican restaurant, those who went after Miller in DC, and likely what Waters said about going after members of the administration to let them know they are not welcome anywhere anymore.

She was calling for civility, to which I say,...

"I certainly understand where you are coming from Rep Pelosi and I respect you, but NO! JUST NO! There is a time to be pleasant and a time to fight. This is the time to fight! Republicans are not going to all of a sudden stop cheating, stop doing horrible things with their policies. They are not going to stop complaining and stop lying. We should not do the things that they do, but we should not continue to turn the other cheek and allow them to keep smacking us around because 'we are better than that'. We are better than them! At our very worst we are better than they are. We don't lie constantly, demean women, kill unarmed Black people, steal from the average citizen and give to the wealthiest. We don't sell our country to Russia, we don't turn our back on our allies and embrace murdering dictators. We don't cut food programs for the poor, or take the babies of refugees out of the arms of their parents. We don't make laws intentionally discriminating against LGBT people, against the poor, against the environment. No one is advocating violence and no one is advocating that we shut out our political opponents. People are just tired and are expressing their frustration in a confrontational but not violent or dangerous way, as has been suggested by the president and carried out by his supporters. We are simply telling the LEADERS in the administration that they cannot continue to do evil through policy and procedure and then expect to enjoy the benefits of civil society. We should not EVER condone violence, threats, or destructive acts, but telling someone who is behaving like a fascist that they are a fascist is none of those things. Asking someone to leave a restaurant because they lie and represent the worst person in modern politics is none of those things. Yelling "SHAME" as a person who is defending the traumatizing of children by separating them from their parents simply for fleeing for their safety from a place that the United States helped to make into a horrible place; is confrontational and uncomfortable, but it is none of the things mentioned earlier. America is not a beautiful place right now because people like Trump, SHS, Nielsen, Miller, Sessions, etc... have been allowed to operate with little to no social backlash. We are fired up, we are ready to march, and we are ready to show up where Trump and his administration show up to tell them how we feel. You and the other leaders of the Democratic Party need to be encouraging this activism and shaping it into the motivation to get to that ballot box in November. Don't tell us it is "unacceptable". Remember that when MLK was marching for civil rights, he and his supporters were arrested for "unacceptable" behavior, he and his supporters had dogs and fire hoses turned on them for "unacceptable" behavior. Had they all stopped and focused on "making America beautiful", the Civil Rights Acts would never have been enacted. We cannot expect quiet resolve to carry the day. We have to show those in power that we are larger and more motivated than they are and that we will not play by the rules that they suggest while they use every dirty trick imaginable to maintain their fleeting grasp on power. When we take back the House, the Senate, and in 2020, the White House, Then we can focus on making America beautiful again because as long as they are in power, it will never be".

both sides are even able to BE civil.

In this case, we're faced with opponents who make zero effort toward civil discourse.

Coddling them and playing nice has got us to where we are now.
