(17,865 posts)I personally hate the things. When they go by I cannot hear my audiobook. It can't be healthy for their ears. I guess they get exempted from noise ordinances because they are cool or something.

(869 posts)They are toys for the rebellious wealthy. So an investment banker in Switzerland may have a Harley.
Here they are an expression of pure bad-assness. The things are noisy, and frankly, not refined bikes such as BMWs or many of the Japanese makes.
Because I am German, and I have European friends who have Harleys, I got to ride on one of them in the back.
I learned why so many people are fans of these monstrosities: The noise, vibration, everything turns them into giant male vibrators! (also, in some cases, female vibrators!)

(9,894 posts)and when I was visiting the Southwest a couple years ago we kept running into these biker groups that looked different than our eastern biker groups. Pretty soon we noticed that they were not speaking English. A WHOLE different breed than the standard American bikers.
