As the minority party in the senate, I know of no way.
If you know better, please explain.
Thank you.

(32,653 posts)Or do the russians have something on him? He's been siding with the rethugs lately....

(42,609 posts)He's retiring as of July 31 so that the Court can start it's October term with its full membership (and thus avoid having some cases heard by only 8 Justices). It's the way it's been done by most retiring Justices in recent memory (except when they retire due to health reasons).

Drop it on him during the confirmation hearing.

(49,952 posts)The standard is so low today. I wonder what it would take for the GOP to turn on a nominee.

(30,613 posts)Doesn't seem to help much.
However, jails full of babies seem to be having some effect. Let people know that all those babies are endangered by SCOTUS right-wingers. I believe that's literally true.

(18,770 posts)...no, not much else we can do.
*What if* Trump nominates Judge Jeanne Pirro or Judge Judy or even Judge Reinhold? It's certainly in the realm of possibilities!

(10,001 posts)Just enough to make Trump nominate her and for the GOP to have to support her. Get her seated.
See her make a mockery of the court by running to FoxNews when she can with privileged information. She might get bored. Who knows how the other justices will react and treat her.

(81,406 posts)Get rid of the filibuster and push everything through on a simple majority. Ignore the Republicans. Fuck them. It's the only way to repair the damage and save our country.

(42,609 posts)If you assume that the Repubs will never again have a bare majority in both Houses (and control the WH), you don't need a law making it harder to change the number of justices. And if you assume that at some point the Repubs will have a majority in both houses and control the WH, there is nothing that would stop them from repealing the law you just described. Laws can be passed. And laws can be repealed.

(26,721 posts)Majority in the House and Senate... get rid of the legislative filibuster... plus the WH?
standingtall
(2,785 posts)that if we get back the house,Senate and White house we will stack the supreme court.
The legislative filibuster is only hanging on by a thread now any way with republicans trying to do everything through reconciliation and Trumps repeated calls for its repeal. Probably the only reason why republicans haven't repealed it already is they are afraid if Democrats ever take back the houses they will do exactly what I'm talking. So if we take back the Government we should repeal the legislative filibuster and then repeal the 1860s law that limits the number of supreme court justices and go right for the jugular.

(26,721 posts)Republicans have those things now.
How would you feel if they did it?
standingtall
(2,785 posts)and the only way to correct it is to fight fire with fire. I know what republicans are doing now and I feel pretty shitty about it. For the sake of justice Democrats are going to have to do this. We cannot just sit back allow republicans to use procedures to pack the court in their favor to hoard power and to facilitate injustices when they are the minority in terms of the citizens.

(819 posts)No way to stop the confirmation.....
I'm interested in these three right now:
Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. They all voted for Gorsuch because they are in very vulnerable seats.
What is better, for the to vote for the nominee and keep their seat? Or to vote against and lose it?
This....seriously....sucks.
