The strategy, to describe the press as liars, is similar to the "Lügenpresse" (lying press) of the Third Reich, but both evolved separately and independently.

Case in point, the 2009 DHS report identifying right-wing extremists as potential threats. It was referring to Timothy McVeigh types, groups that see commies under every rock and threaten government employees, and white supremaccist groups. Groups like neoNazi Stormfront actively encourage their people to go into the army during Bush's Iraq war in order to get training with weapons and explosives. Their membership in a group like Stormfront would normally be turned away, but the military had gotten so desperate for recruits they loosened th standards. Too many military-age Republicans were just fine with supporting someone else's ass out in harm's way for a neoconservative joyride.

But what did Glenn Beck and other foam-cannons do? Paint is as declaring every last FOX viewing couch potato to be a terrorist: Proof that THEY were out to get YOU!
