The last hope. We have one shot left. We need to lock down all 49 Democratic Senators or we lose the country for good. Write, call, show up, rally - do whatever you can....TWICE, and let them know we need this or we lose our country.

I hope Manchin votes against Trump's nominee. But are you suggesting that Democrats in West Virginia should abandon him if he doesn't. We have a tiny window of opportunity to capture the Senate, which could be enormously important for the next two years, particularly if we were to lose one of the liberals on the court (or even if one of the older conservatives, like Thomas, were to resign to give Trump a chance at appointing someone else who would be around for 30 years). Not doing everything we can to keep Manchin in the Senate is cutting off our noses to spite our face.

If Manchin up-votes such a pick, what makes you think he'd be any good to us going forward on other issues anyway?

(46,054 posts)and that results in the nominee being defeated AND in Manchin being defeated, we have won nothing. The odds are that the Republicans will still control the Senate and instead of Manchin voting against the replacement nominee it will be a republican who will vote for that nominee.

(82,849 posts)Every time someone asks "unanimous consent" to proceed, one Democrat should pipe up with "Object." It's the exact same tactic McConnell used to gum up the Senate works. What it does is force a floor vote on everything, which is a pain in the ass, even if all that's needed is a majority vote to go on to the next stage in a long, cumbersome process. A vote takes time, and that's one commodity the Senate doesn't have in abundance.
Yeah, you're going to piss off a lot of your Senate colleagues. Too bad, so sad. The Constitution and the American people come before their delicate feelings.
