(10,133 posts)as much as I'd like to see anyone other than this opportunistic carpetbagger (where does he live now? Wasn't it New Hampshire last time he ran for office?) he's a good Mormon with ties to the LDS elite. Not upper-echelon elite like relatives of Smith or Young or Kimball, but at least one of his cousins was pretty high up in the hierarchy. And that's going to get him the majority of the vote in Utah.
IMHO, Romney sees the Senate as a stepping stone to a higher position - president of the US, or head of the Mormon church. He's shown time after time he's spineless when it comes to standing up for anyone other than people like him.
My cousin is a Mormon and lives in Salt Lake City. She talks about Mitt in this weird hushed, revered voice, like she's in awe of him or something. It's creepy. While I managed with a lot of effort to talk her into voting for Clinton (she loathes Trump and wasn't going to vote at all) there's no way I can convince her not to vote for Mitt.
He's as good as elected, IMO.
