General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHi! I'm a newbie and here's some info about me:
My lifes journey could fill a book (2 in fact!), and on this journey I was blessed to be awakened to my spirituality and female empowerment by a White Wiccan. At first I resisted, wanting nothing to do with religion, but she persisted as Wicca is a personalized faith, not borne out of any organized religion. Though she possessed great psychic ability she didnt rely on it to express her belief that womens exercise of their personal power would be the thing to bring peace and restore our necessary balance with Mother Nature. She simply had faith that it would happen. And it is happening.
In addition to the benefit of spirituality and female empowerment, under Wicca, the practice of herbal healing is known as the Craft of the Wise, hence my in2herbs identification. In medieval times men in the male-dominated Christian religion were threatened by the power of women who practiced the Craft of the Wise. As a result herbal practitioners were punished, often to death. So when someone dismisses the herbal healing power that Mother Nature provides I take it personal because they are also dismissing the power of women.
I dont want to bash anybody on this site, but I have found that those opposed to alternative therapies claim that any healing that results is due to the patients faith and hope that the therapy will work. Bunk. Alternative treatments dont always work, but pharmaceutical treatments dont always work either despite ones faith in the science of pharmaceuticals and their hope that the take-a-pill-to-heal therapy will work for them.
Heres some other stuff about me: DU is my go to site for info and the only discussion forum I belong to, my TV is connected to an antenna so my Maddow/ODonnell/Hayes/Joy fix is on a 24-hour delay, I dont talk to republicans, Im not on social media but am grateful to those who are using it as a voice of truth, my cell phone is a flip phone and not connected to the internet, and my phone contract is for 250 minutes per month which is just fine with me because I prefer spending time with my dogs, horses, and the wildlife just outside my door as this is the environment where I am constantly reminded of the truth, balance and harmony we must have with Mother Nature if there is ever to be peace.
Lastly, I like to read, but I only read non-fiction. Though it was published several years ago I recommend the book: The G.O.D. Experiment: How Science is Discovering G.O.D. in Everything Including Us by Gary E. Schwartz as it puts credible scientific research behind the science of the spirit.
Does anyone have any reading recommendations to share?

(1,989 posts)you might possibly enjoy the Vegetarian/Animal Rights forum here if you love animals. And yes, you are right about drugs--they don't always work.

(21,646 posts)Are you enjoying the beautiful strawberry full moon tonight?
Strawberry Moon, AKA the Hot Moon, because the summer solstice the longest day of the year marks the start of summer heat and it's right on time
I'm in Chicago and we may hit 95 degrees tomorrow and there is a haze around the full moon tonight
I am also in to herbs and flowers some are very powerful some are very sweet some bitter all good and on this earth with us.
A friend just brought me some new herbs, mushrooms and an unusual tea from mountains in China
I am now in love with a tea I have no name for and is probably only available in a small area half way around the world. Many of the teas there are only grown in one area so I am being thrift in my amounts brewed so I can have it for as long as possible as I may never encounter it again, but i am in competition with other family members who love it too .
Great to have a new taste to explore and know it's valued at it's origin there as good for you too!
It's like no tea I have had before
There used to be a lot of types bashing alternatives here not sure if they are still around. I will not say more except I make use of the ignore feature (maybe that is only for star members not sure) .
and that really I use other online sites more for herbs and nutrition discussion and print and people of course but
I am a du star member willing to donate to this site because I use it not only for news , political banter and comments, but there is a lot of good topic forums also.

(33,643 posts)And it's a very small 'but' ... nobody is 'psychic', at least not in the common definition of the word. It is absolutely a fake 'thing', just as all 'magicians' ... are not 'really magic'. These phenomenon simply do not exist.
Anyone seriously calling themselves 'psychic' ... is a charlatan and a huckster.
Again, Welcome. Hopefully your personally definition of 'psychic' in this context is something entirely different from the common one

(2,945 posts)charlatans and hucksters who call themselves psychics rely on nuances in body language and leading questions during their reading. Psychic is the word I use in discussions because it is the more commonly-known word. In the context of spirituality the word used is energy reading as it is quite different from being psychic.
Energy reading is a form of communication. Animals, being right-brained, communicate with us by reading our energy. This is why the use of animals has proven to be therapeutic in healing the humans wounded soul. On some primitive level everyone is an energy reader. I wish we could all tap into this positive energy at this time.
Its good to be skeptical, I still am, but its better to be skeptical with an open mind. (I'd insert a smile emoji here but I don't know how to do it from this screen.)

There, you will find a community of like-minded thinkers and a safe place to discuss your beliefs. Posting about them in General Discussion will open the discussion to us nasty skeptics, who insist on silly things like peer review, testing, and evidence of efficacy.

(2,945 posts)if I only engaged in discussions in a safe place with only like-minded thinkers I wouldn't be the person who I am today.

(44,228 posts)in that case, there's no difference between psychics and "energy reading". They're both complete nonsense, practiced by charlatans and con-artists, who bilk the gullible, and laugh all the way to the bank.
There's been no real, double-blind, replicable research that has demonstrated the existence of any sort of psychic phenomenon. Faith healing, crystals, reiki, pyramid power, all of it - scams and fakery.
I look forward to reading more of your posts.

(113,262 posts)a couple of reading rec's (if you have not read them already!!) "When God Was a Woman" by Merlin Stone. "The Great Cosmic Mother" by Barbara Mor and Monica Sjoo. "The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets" by Barbara G. Walker. "Gyn-Ecology: The Meta-Ethics of Radical Feminism" by Mary Daly.
I read the book "When God Was a Woman" several years ago. Liked it. Will search for the other books that were recommended by you and the other books from DUer's replying to my post.
I like the books author Stewart Edward White wrote on spirituality. They were published in the '40s. Some of those titles are "The Road I Know", "With Folded Wings", "The Unobstructed Universe", "The Stars Are Still There", and "The Betty Book", to name a few.
Thanks for the reading list. It's hot where I live so can't be outside and this reading material can fill my days --- and my soul.
