I am quite sure that the domestic terrorist who slaughtered five people today in Maryland was not from Venezuela, North Korea, Somalia, Libya, Syria, or Yemen. And in case you were wondering, those are the countries on trump's travel ban list. All those countries are responsible for a whopping eight percent of the world's terrorism. Maybe instead of trying to keep folks from some of these other countries out, we should be worried about the terrorist who are already here in our country. They have created terror time and time again.Today's attack, sparked in part by the words of the president, is proof of how dangerous the words from the most powerful man on earth can be. There is no denying that trump has created a hostile environment for journalists and those in the news business, and the end result today was the slaughter of five innocent people who happen to work for a newspaper. trump, when asked about the shootings in Maryland, cracked a smile and walked away. Of course, being the twitter coward that he is, he tweeted about it.
"Prior to departing Wisconsin, I was briefed on the shooting at Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland," Mr. Trump tweeted. "My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Thank you to all of the First Responders who are currently on the scene."
Save your "prayers". If there is a God she doesn't hear you.

(10,721 posts)The murders in Maryland and Alt-Right rhetoric (Trump, Milo, etc.) really ought to be a major topic of conversation. Not just by some MSNBC hosts, but every media outlet (ABC, NBC, CBS, newspapers, CNN, etc.).

(33,788 posts)His 'enemy of the state' is out there, we'll find out over time during the trial if trumps & milos statements impacted the shooters deeds.
All the news shows on NPR today kept.mentionomg.thrir colleagues deaths.
The soft pass given to trump, example Habermann of the NYT, the CNN talking heads who let the RW & trump spokesweasels prattle on, I hope is coming to an end.

(86,184 posts)But perhaps the most recurring comment was related to the many remarks Trump made about the press time and again. Ever since he won the election, the president of the United States has repeatedly criticized the media, including describing journalists as "the enemy of the people."

(18,470 posts)...should be eligible for the death penalty. And it should be by public hanging. I make no apologies for my attitude either. Im past the point of giving a fuck. Targeting journalists is third world dictator shit that must never be tolerated here and should be dealt with harshly.

(14,212 posts)and he knows I'm a former Broadcast TV journalist that if the victims in Maryland had had some guns ... you know the rest of the sentence.
I told him the cops got there in 2 minutes. Didn't matter to him. Could have helped to stop the guy shooting if the victim that was trying to open the blocked door had had a gun.
BS I say. Where was the gun the victim was supposed to have? In his desk? In a holster? 2 minutes. Who can figure out what's going on in that amount of time? Let's say there were 5 reporters with guns. One shoots. Then the others think he's the bad guy. OK Corral.
Mass shooters get by with the amount of damage because the have these things on their side.
1) The element of surprise.
2) Disregard in most cases for personal safety.
3 Weapons easily obtained with devastating military power. Rounds that can punch a whole in a Kevlar vest worn by any officer approaching the scene. Rounds if they hit you will not just go through but expand to damage vital organs like your lungs, liver, pancreas, intestines, etc. You will never be the same again.
The only answer to this is what Australia, England, Japan...etc. have done. Get rid of the bloody guns.

(50,761 posts)The guy might have had other reasons in his warped mind to do what he did, but hearing the hate spewed at journalists from Trump could easily have been the thing that finally sent the gunman into action.
