Republicans propose using sales tax money for new tax cuts

Republicans propose using sales tax money for new tax cuts

June 29… JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A U.S. Supreme Court ruling making it easier to collect online sales taxes could yield billions of dollars for state and local governments — if they decide to keep it.

Rather than spend the windfall on schools, prisons or other government services, some Republican governors and lawmakers are proposing to give it away in the form of tax cuts.

Dollars to croissants, it will go mostly to millionaires and billionaires again… who so desperately need it, again.

If you don't collect taxes, you can't pay the bills. If you can't pay the bills, you go belly up. Don has protected himself by having business bankruptcies rather than personal bankruptcies, but that's not going to work for the country.

the term "the show me state" seems to take on more of the "here, hold my beer" nuance. Stupidity abounds!

So they are replacing a progressive tax with a regressive tax. Fucking greedbangers.

(Even a "flat" income tax (one with the same rate for all income levels) will almost certainly have an exemption / standard deduction to shield the first few thousand dollars of income from taxes, so it isn't quite flat overall but somewhat progressive. And if you have a bad year, e.g. a few months of unemployment, your income taxes goes down, but not your property taxes and not your sales taxes beyond what belt-tightening you can manage to do).
