"Good guy with a gun" shot by police

Yeah, there have been occasions when "good guy with a gun" is the hero. Then there are more chaotic situations like this where law enforcement arrives and doesn't know who's a threat and who's not.

The short of it in this situation: a navy veteran with a holstered gun was trying to break up a fight outside a Portland, Oregon, sports bar when his firearm fell to the ground. He went to pick it up, despite warnings not to, and a LEO shot him.

"They warned him multiple times not to reach for it, but he did," Dietz said. "I don't want the message out there that the cops were trigger-happy."

Another reason not to go drinking while armed. Firewater and guns what could go wrong.

(1) Witnesses are mistaken, or lying, and he was involved in the fight

(2) He was going for his gun with bad intent

(3) He made a drunken decision to ignore the police

(4) He didn't hear the police

These things can take time to sort out decisively
