Now that Harley-Davidson is moving part of its operation out of the U.S., my Administration is working with other Motor Cycle companies who want to move into the U.S. Harley customers are not happy with their move - sales are down 7% in 2017. The U.S. is where the Action is!

(54,566 posts)Wouldn't any and all other motorcycle manufacturer(s) have the same challenge? How could it/they compete when they too will have to raise THEIR price due to the tariffs?

(6,102 posts)Therefore, a bike made with foreign steel in Japan can be imported without those costs being tacked on.
At least that is my understanding.

(4,890 posts)marketing to China etc. By moving operations overseas, they avoid those tariffs.
At least that is my understanding in addition to your remarks. Your points indicate also the advantage of assembling the bikes using cheap un-taxed steel in factories overseas and then bring the bikes to the USA.
I was surprised as were others about how many facilities Harley has in other countries already.
"Harley-Davidson manufactures its motorcycles at factories in York, Pennsylvania; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kansas City, Missouri (closing); Manaus, Brazil; and Bawal, India. Construction of a new plant in Thailand is scheduled to begin in late 2018[5]. The company markets its products worldwide."

Nothing tells me hes a real rider than capitalizing and writing out Motor Cycle .

(28,270 posts)Trump will stab you in the back on a whim. The only thing he understands about business is corruption and bankruptcy.
Other than those two items he is a values/morals free demagogue that will do anything to hold on to power.
Throwing any business under the bus in not a problem for your GOP president idiots!
