Ohio Republican Jim Jordan has been accused of failing to stop a team doctor from molesting wrestling students he coached more than two decades ago. Ohio State employee, Dr. Richard Strauss, died in 2005 but the university announced in April that it was investigating accusations brought against Strauss.

(7,388 posts)On one hand, as seen from the 49 states that aren't "round on the ends and HI in the middle" (OHIO), he's a republican so it's time to move on, nothing to see here.
But, when you're in Ohio and you're talking about disparaging the image of THE Ohio State University (that's pronounced "THEE"
Doesn't make the district blue or even purple but Mr. Jordan could easily find himself on the outside looking in as his constituents weigh the allegation of those fine young alumni of the OSU sports programs.

That's a hellava lot to keep under wraps. But apparently they had their reasons. I'm not blaming the boys.
Dr Strauss ended up committing suicide in 2005.

(4,066 posts)Your wording could use a little bit of clarification. I'm sure you mean you hope it is true he suffers the consequences of his actions or inactions on this. Not that that the abuse is true. Others seem to be reading a different meaning.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)But unfolding events have a way of putting "safe" seats into a more competitive configuration. This is why it's such a good idea to run a candidate for every office. Sure, it's no fun getting clobbered in a hostile district, and I can understand aspiring politicians being reluctant to run a hopeless campaign.
But every now and then . . . Well, just ask Senator Doug Jones of Alabama how things can change.

(14,082 posts)a google will show you huge coverage on this story, INCLUDING one by Fox News posted (finally) just an hour ago.
From the Fox story:
Yetts added that the student athletes approached Jordan numerous times about Strauss.
For Gods sake, Strausss locker was right next to Jordans and Jordan even said hed kill him if he tried anything with him, Yetts said.
I cant see this story evaporating into the ozone anytime soon...
Of course, just my humble yet correct opinion...

(37,435 posts)Regionally, the story is a big deal. From the Ohio group
Ohio State University announced in April that it was investigating accusations that Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005, abused team members when he was the team doctor from the mid-1970s to late 1990. As of Friday, Jordan had not been questioned by the university-hired lawyers

3 former wrestlers told NBC News it was common knowledge that Strauss showered regularly w/ the students & inappropriately touched them during appointments, & said it would have been impossible for Jordan to be unaware; one wrestler said he told Jordan directly about the abuse (link:

The university is almost the civic religion of central Ohio. You can start conversation about college sports & the weather anywhere .
The tentacles of this story goes back to the first time Gordon Gee was OSU president during this time. Current guy is Michael Drake. The blanketing of this is going to be a problem for OSU.

They will turn a blind eye to criminal activity if it makes it easier to get ahead in life. They see no reason to protect anyone but themselves, including the young and vulnerable. They will refuse call out Trump on his misdeeds as long as Trump has power. Trump loyalists are dangerous like Jim Jordan.

(11,203 posts)Harvey Weinstein ran an Entertainment Corporation and sexually harassed, threatened, and raped(?) women, finally got caught, and will face consequences. Weinstein's enablers (those that knew of his crimes, and I am NOT speaking of his victims, and kept quiet deserve to be shunned).
Trump runs the United State of America, and it will most likely be up to legislators that speak out against his crimes and unethical behavior for him to be either removed from office or put on a very short leash. Jordan's history of loyalty indicates he will do nothing.

(41,468 posts)The children involved in the Sandusky case were really young. Mostly 10, 11, 12 year olds and a few were even younger. They were raped and taken advantage of in the most hideous way.
So presumably these OSU college-age young men were a little older and wiser. One could almost argue that they consented, and I'm not saying that they did consent. It could be a possible defense, if this ever went to trial. I think it's more important to establish that Jim Jordan had the knowledge and ignored it. Getting some of the victims to testify against him would be most effective.

Powerful GOP Rep. Jim Jordan accused of turning blind eye to sexual abuse as Ohio State wrestling coach
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/powerful-gop-rep-jim-jordan-accused-turning-blind-eye-sexual-n888386
A well written, in-depth article with several people alleging that Jim Jordan knew about the athletes being sexually abused by Dr Richard Strauss.
One said he was asked by Jim Jordan to "leave him out of it".
These are Jim Jordan's credentials..
"Jordan, a founder of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of the most conservative representatives, is a staunch ally of President Donald Trump and is frequently mentioned as a possible replacement for the speaker of the House, Paul Ryan."
