I just can't bring myself to feel sorry for rhino poachers.

But................it might be kind of the same thing as the Somali pirates, where the Somalis are pirates when once they were coastal fisherpeople because a) Europeans and Japanese fished out their waters, b) European corporate interests dump toxic waste off the Somali coast, making it impossible for OTHER fish to come back. So they became pirates.

Is it the same with these poachers? What kinds of jobs are available there? Do the people have enough food? What kind of infrastructure is in place? Are there any safety nets for the unemployed? Is there national healthcare?

It may be time for the west to rethink its policies of colonialism and begin thinking of humanity as one species and the earth as our home - a home that we share with other wild species, and domestic species. Humans tend to forget they're part of the food chain. They also tend to forget they're animals as well.

I find it a pity that lions can't use social media - they could have posed over the dead bodies of their prey in selfies - sending the photos out for all to see.
