to run against Trump because Trump isn't a politician and he got elected (never mind the Russians or the fact that Clinton won the popular vote), therefore the Democrats should also nominate somebody who's never held public office - ignoring the fact that Trump sucks as president at least in part because he hasn't the faintest idea how government works (the other part is that he's an asshole). The latest non-politician presidential shiny object since Oprah announced she's not interested is Michael Avenatti, who has made a big media splash with the Stormy Daniels case - which hasn't proceeded beyond a few unsuccessful motions but has got Avenatti a buttload of cable TV appearances. And now Avenatti, not being shy, has become involved in the family separation issue when it started getting more TV time than the Daniels case. So of course he should run for president.

I have repeatedly argued that a president must be a professional politician because it's the top level of an actual profession. I want the person who operates on me to be an experienced surgeon. I want the person flying the airplane I'm riding in to be an experienced professional pilot. So many people think that being a politician is a bad thing, and it's not. We have a very complex government with hundreds of agencies; the federal government is the country's largest employer, with over 2 million civil service employees and many other appointees and contractors. The process of legislation is complicated and requires significant knowledge and understanding of workings of the various committees and personnel involved in the process. A president has to have a good understanding of foreign relations and treaty obligations. Why in god's name do we want another amateur? I want a professional politician who knows how this incredibly complex machine works. Not another Trump. For that matter, not an Oprah or an Avenatti.
