This guy is supposed to be smart, an alt-right intellectual, if you will. What specious reasoning

“What his base looks at is a guy who is putting America’s interest first,” said Trump’s former chief White House strategist, Steve Bannon.

Bannon said that hard-core Republicans are receptive to Trump’s message that Russia can be a U.S. partner, citing the pragmatic alliance between Washington and Moscow against Nazi Germany.

“The base has so many veterans in it,” Bannon said. “They do realize we would have never won World War II without the Russians as allies. This is basic. The Russians are the ones that really broke the back of the German army.”

He is correct that Russia was an indispensable ally in WW ll but the youngest WW ll veterans would be ninety four years old. There aren't many of em left. If the base likes Putin it is because Trump does.

It reminds me of when Trump said all the parents of missing Korean War veterans who asked him to find out about their children's remains. Those people would have to be at least one hundred.

Which pretty much makes Bannon's point moot. Apples and oranges. Oh....and he is an asshole pusbag with bad grooming habits.

fierce anti-communists as well. Or did this asshole forget about the whole Cold War thingy? I can't imagine many of the bring "receptive" to Russian interference in our elections.

Edit: remember when "hardcore Republicans" accused Obama of being soft on Putin, even after he sanctioned them into a deep recession? Now I'm supposed to believe they're receptive to Putin? What bullshit.

1) Russia and Germany were erstwhile allies or at least erstwhile non-belligerents.
2) Patton wanted to invade Russia and the Allies didn't rule it out. See Operation Unthinkable.

Americans because the Russian soldiers were killing, raping and pillaging everything in sight. It was nothing more than a transactional relationship. Bannon has such a superior intellect that it hurts.
