There are people who pretend to be legitimate by reporting some factual things and by feeding you things you want to hear. This builds trust. Russians are a good example of this long game. It was recently reported by NPR that they created legitimate sounding twitter news accounts. They tweeted actual local news and gained followers. So when needed they can influence Americans at a later time.


It also happened to the founder of twitter. Some user got retweeted by him and thus made them seem trustworthy. They turned out to be a russian troll. One of the retweets was inspirational about no one's born a racist.
