I always thought this was purely a German phenomenon, because we're very careful with calling someone a Verräter (traitor) because Hitler did that all the time. Now we actually have so-called citizens who call Merkel a Volksverräterin because she "opened the borders", but at the same time they have protest signs that say "Putin Hilf!" ("Putin help us!" ). I mean, aren't those guys traitors in every sense of the word? I thought that maybe we should start calling these people Volksverräter to sound very Hitlerish, but apparently that's useless because the same people exist in the USA, and I guess nobody is afraid to call them traitors in the US.
