Nice. This is where my kid goes to see movies (man arrested with weapons in Ohio theater).

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/08/north_ridgeville_man_arrested.html#incart_river_default

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- A 37-year-old North Ridgeville man is being held without bail in the Westlake jail after an off-duty police officer found a loaded gun, extra ammunition clips and four knives in a satchel he carried into a Saturday night showing of "The Dark Knight Rises."

Lt. Ray Arcuri said police have no idea why Scott A. Smith carried the weapons into the theater, but are taking no chances. With the memory fresh of the July 20 shooting spree at a "Dark Knight" movie showing in Colorado that left 12 people dead and 58 wounded, police and theater security are vigilant.

Arcuri said Westlake Officer Jeremiah Bullins was off duty and working security at the Regal Cinema in the Crocker Park shopping center around 10 p.m. Saturday when he saw the theater manager talking to a man carrying a satchel. The manager did not ask to look inside the satchel.

Bullins followed the man when he walked into the theater showing the Batman movie and sat down.

"He entered the theater a half-hour early and was the only one in there," said Arcuri. "Bullins talked to the man and asked if he could see inside his bag. It was a consensual encounter.

"Bullins looked inside and saw a loaded Glock 9 millimeter handgun; two fully loaded magazine clips; three knives in the bag and one on his person," Arcuri continued. "When Bullins asked why he carried the weapons into the theater, the man said, 'No problem. I'll put them in my car.' But it was too late for that."

Perfectly innocent intentions, I'm sure of it.

2. He entered the theater half an hour early with a satchel, which he was happy to show to the cop.

If only all of them could be that dumb. Unless he WANTED to be caught.

5. Maybe he figured the jig was up so he'd be better off playing innocent.

"I'll just put them in the car."

Yeah, right. He just carried all that gear into the theater innocently.

I guess if the NRA had their way, the cop wouldn't have been able to arrest him.

9. I'm still baffled as to why he consented to a search.

Without probable cause, he had had no right to be searched without consent.
Arriving early to a movie and carrying a man-purse is not probable cause.

My guess is that he wanted to be caught... there's no other explanation because nobody is that stupid.

10. Some people really are that stupid.

I think maybe he didn't realize that he could refuse a search and figured that the best plan was to play innocent. "Okay. I'll just put them in the car."

4. My guess is that he did not a have a concealed carry permit...

The handgun and magazines would be perfectly legal if he had a permit to carry a concealed firearm. He must not have had a permit to carry it. Depending on the type and length of the knives (switchblades or knives over a certian length)... those may be illegal regardless of any permits.

He'll probably get a few possesion charges against him in addition to maybe a conspiracy to commit charge... My guess is that the conspiracy/intent and knife charges get thrown out on a plea deal for a lesser misdemeanor possesion charge. That's how these things usually go.

16. "there are a lot of armed criminals running around" because it is easy to get around the law

Perhaps we should close some of those loopholes that arm them so well, just a thought.

23. The one where I can buy a gun or AR without any background check whatsoever.

You are either hopelessly uninformed or unaware how criminals in NY get guns (they just buy them at gun shows without checks, at least that is how my gun worshiping idiot redneck neighbors get them) criminal records and all.

Or you are playing stupid because you think the rest of us are?
We are not.

We appear to be smarter than you in that we know how to use the loopholes you pretend don't exist.
I can drive south and buy one without a background check (or several guns actually for under the table re-sale if I wanted to) just by approaching a "private seller". In quotes because many of these "private sellers" move guns every week of the year and are not the guy selling his shotgun privately to a buyer as you'all like to pretend.

It is big business and how most of the guns make it to MY CITY streets to be used by criminals.

Let's just get rid of that major supply of guns to criminals first OK and then perhaps NEXT limit sales to hunting weapons only, My father hunted for years without need of anything more than a shotgun and a recurve bow. He for some reason never needed to use an assault rifle, armor piercing rounds, or 100 round clips to bag his prey.

Perhaps he was simply a much better man than those that need war weapons to take down game.
Perhaps he was just not such a pussy that fear drove him to acquire a small arsenal designed to kill humans not animals.
He did serve in two wars and was a cop in Lubbock Texas for 4 years, so maybe he was just more of a man.

I know a buck is scary, but man up will ya?

24. I agree that all sales should require a background check

it is, of course, completely unenforceable because there is no record of guns in private hands but it would do no harm. It is, however, a state issue so each state would have to pass legislation.

I don't hunt. I target shoot. AR-15s are the standard rifle for competitive target shooting. You don't know much about guns - every rifle was at one time in history a "war weapon". Millions were killed in WWI and WWII with bolt action rifles - those rifles you know as "hunting" rifles.

14. Of course! He will have to replace what they take afterall, luckily there is a loophole for that

He just needs to go to a "private seller" at a gun show somewhere.
Possibly the same one he went to last time.

Thank Gawd his right to go around the law has been well provided for by the friends of the Constitution known as the NRA.
