when will Obama weigh in on this existential crisis our country faces today?

Perhaps a joint communicate is first needed from all living Presidents that underscore the accelerating threat of Donald Trump continued pResidency?

But Obama is President Opposite and I would love him to do a nationalized televised speech - maybe on the National Mall? - that (1) strongly sides with the rule of law and (2) offers up remedies to contain future Trump viruses from infecting our body politic - paper ballots, mandatory financial record releases for every candidate for POTUS, address systematic gerrymandering of the GOP, etc.

He should also hit hard on the policy and moral turpitude that rots the GOP today. Taxcuts for the rich, destroying the Affordable Care Act with nothing to replace it, Puerto Rican disaster response, immigration, gutting EPA, HHS, and other important public safety nets.

Trump is the culmination of a 35 year journey for the Republican Party.....Obama should drive that point home.

giving the 16th annual Nelson Mandela speech on the even of Mandela's 100th birthday. In fact, he's about to speak soon.

I think he will let the US media and sitting politicians weigh in, rather than doing it himself.

Not sure how people missed it. It continues to this day with him addressing a number of points you mention. Shit. He just released a promotion for redistricting.

Trump kompramat was discussed quite a bit here prior to the 2016 election.

I want Obama to revisit this topic in his speech....he needs to hang McConnell for his role in squashing any bi-partisan effort to address Russian meddling in our 2016 election. Without bi-partisan support, it was impossible for him to weigh in without the resultant RW mediastorm that would have ensued.

It will serve no purpose and Republicans would then simply have Obama to attack. It would muddy the waters.

Not good enough Obama needs to die.

There is no Democrat that can step up with the institutional and moral authority that Obama possesses. He is the personification of the Party and a a leader that the world respects and admires. He can convey our commitment to the EU and NATO. That will send Trump off the deep end.

Really, there is no better person to deliver the message of who we are as a country then Barack Obama. Put him in front of a crowd of a 1/2 million people with another 3 Billion watching it on TV.....watch him give the speech that the world has to hear.....he was made for this moment.

On edit - this post was meant to be a response to post 1.

Obama has himself and his family to look after now. He gave us 8 great years.

He will come back when he's ready, not when we are.

Any Democrat will be smeared as partisan, obviously. Obama isn't Superman. "Why don't Democrats stop this" bullshit is annoying. Existential crisis, this isn't a novel like "Nausea."

would be more than the letter of the law at work. This has to be a “clean” takedown, not based upon any partisanship (as difficult as that is to do now), but rather on the survival of democracy.

Now, if Trump fires Mueller (getting harder for him to do that with each passing day), then all bets are off. If that should happen, then all living ex-presidents would be welcome to weigh in on the fascism that’s spreading like some disease.
