Sorry to say ..this country has double standards

If a Democratic President had done a fraction of what Republicans allow themselves to do..we would be facing a total wipeout if not political extinction.

And yet Republicans are expected to retain control of Senate and have a small chance of hanging on to the house.

What does that tell you about the country we live in?

1. People don't pay enough attention to politics and are SEVERELY apathetic about what's going, too busy to pay attention, don't connect policies to their lives unless it affects them personally, etc.
2. People actually support Republicans and their policies (at least a solid 30% seems to support them no matter how horrible their policies or actions are)
3. Republicans have gamed the system, worked the refs, and keep getting themselves elected by limiting voters (felon disenfranchisement, voter ID, voter rolls purging), picking voters favorable to to them (Gerrymandering)
4. Some combination of all of the above (which is what I tend to believe)

4. It tells me that maybe Congress and the White House are no longer of the Republic

There are a range of institutions in this country that do not reflect the fascism in our federal government; public opinion, the media, people who want universal medical care, ending the war on drugs, and then we have Congress, the courts, and the White House... the disconnect is jarring.

I think it's less a double standard and more that the political bodies in Washington DC are not bodies by, for, and of the people. They are not of the Constitution.

5. We do not have a representative government.

The current president is illegitimate.

The republicans control the government when they are in the minority.

The republicans control the government when they are in the majority.

The democratic party is always marginalized and insulted.

The wealthy control this country.

The majority of wealthy people back the republicans.

The religious fanatics have great power in this country.

They back the republicans.

6. Better question, what does all this say about OURSELVES?

We should all have one standard for all candidates, operatives and factions in all parties.

So I reject the premise of the OP entirely. Passing off our individual failures on "our country," is always profoundly dishonest, as is trying to pretend that everyone participates in these political crimes when there are always many who do not.

Most Republicans are way beyond on the pale on this subject, of course. Double standards are as necessary to their dishonest constructs as mortar is to brick walls.

But even a lot of people on the left, including some Democrats, had, and still have, a special standard created just for Hillary. She could never have gotten away with some of the stuff her Teflon opponent has. The woman would have been tarred and feathered with it and whipped out of town at the cart's tail.

This is all about our own honesty, each of us.

7. I think the state bias of the two most powerful

portions of the government (the President and the Senate) along with the multiplier of those two controlling who becomes the federal judges has caused an irreparable rip in our country.

At our founding, Virginia was the largest state (692K with 288K of them being slaves). That represents representative power of 576K (3/5ths you know for the slaves). The smallest state was Delaware at 59K. This means that the ratio between the largest state and the smallest state was about 10x.

Now California is 39.5 M, and Wyoming is 579K. That is a 68x ratio. I can't imagine that the founders intended this to happen. It is horrifying. We also have a territory of 3 M people (Puerto Rico) that is larger than 20 states.

Satan himself could run as a Republican and a majority of republicans, especially evangelicals would still vote for him because "I just can't vote for a democrat!"

And evangelicals would still flock to the polls to vote for him if he was a republican.

As usual, the Republicans focus on the wrong side of social issues and too many in this country lap it up. Prior to Trump, there was no real consequence, in their eyes, to electing a Rep vs. a Dem on pretty much every other issue.

But now, with Trump throwing tariffs around and pissing all over trade partners and allies, and then whatever yesterday was, I'm hoping we'll see that approval rating drop to where it belongs.
