VFW as a Vet.

I served from 83 to 91, One of my son's was medivaced out of Iraq in 2003. The other did 4 tours on the Stennis and Reagan. I live in a very wealthy town is upstate NY.. We do OK ... we make just over a 100 grand but the houses on our lake cost multi millions.. Welcome to cost of living...

My sisters friend, the sister or Barry Crimmons, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Crimmins), rented the VA hall for a family remembrance. When I showed up at the VFW at 1130 am on a Saturday there were at least 10 people intoxicated at the bar. We also have the American Legion in my part of town and it's the same thing.. a bunch of drunks..

The funny thing is that most of these people are not vets.. they are son's and daughter's of vets.. They could give a shit less than having a private place to get drunk... They march in the parades thinking they are proud... They love Trump..... They have never read the constitution nor took a vow to it..

They don't want Vets like me... I almost got into fisticuffs a year ago at the clambake..

That's the president's base...

Fuck the American Legion and the VFW... True vets do not go there..

oops forgot one thing my Dad was one of the first soldiers to walk into Dachau after it's liberation.. He became a Doctor......

My thirty years of service did not include overseas combat service. That being said, I haven't checked because I have no interest in belonging. The local VFW is little more than a biker bar.

You're eligible.

I cancelled my membership today. I used to go to the local post because they had cheap beer and had the Cleveland games available.

No bikers at my post, but there are some older bleached blondes smoking cigarettes from a hole in their necks hitting on the newest members.

The VFW and the Ligon did a lot for the community. The organization my father belonged to didn't even allow alcohol in their buildings.

but we lived in what was then a dry state, and "private clubs" like the VFW were the only places where bars could operate. I suspect a lot of VFWs started out that way.

We did get some stories later in life. Dachau was the reason that he became a Doctor.. and later a Psychiatrist... He didn't elaborate on much. I tried to get him to tell me details but I think he had compartmentalized them. I am very glad he passed away 4 years ago.. He would not be able to handle what's currently going on..

first all they could talk about was the good old days (cue bruce springsteen)
secondly they were mostly a bunch of drunks
and most of all
they were still thinking their ranks, officers look down on lower officers,
officers look down on lower ranks etc

Vets like you and your family are the ones who make us proud.

Nothing makes me more crazy than the fake Patriots who never read the Constitution, kiss Trump's ass, and say that liberals hate America.

and my brother all served.

None of us ever joined these vet orgs as far i know.

One of many organizations that used to be patriotic and anti fascist but now have sold out to Russia and its puppet Trump.

F them, they have broken the oath to protect and defend the constitution by supporting Putin’s puppet, IMO.

Bless his heart. What do you think he would think about Trump?

My daddy spent two years imprisoned on Bataan Peninsula. He would have detested the man.

This was ages ago and I saw no real benefit in doing so. I didn't feel I had anything in common with them despite my own military service.

I support a drive they do and have shot pool there.

Not a fun place. Pretty depressing. The fund drive is nothing like it once was.

I'm right with ya, xeodtech. I have no idea why any active or veteran would support or vote for another chickenhawk, after the attacks on the Kahn family.
