In the seventh one, Rmoney is holding the ear of corn up to his crotch, much like what an adolescent boy would do.

Awful tall stuff. But it's the midwest, so maybe sweet corn grows that tall out there.

(15,859 posts)the whole "feed corn" thing never crossed my mind, probably because I think its ridiculous. I talked to a woman the other day who actually thought corn was the food of choice for cows.

I guess Romney was so fascinated by the corn that he bought at the grocery store yesterday that he had to visit a corn field today?

(509 posts)That corn they are looking at probably isn't edible until they process it into high fructose corn syrup. Even then it is not really edible.

(42,290 posts)Even here in Canada.
We have a cornfield (feed corn) out back of our house (not ours), and here it is in August and it's STILL not up to eye level. And the bottom leaves are yellow.
We went from late June until last week with out any appreciable rain.

(24,411 posts)...and the latest crop report indicates that 70 percent of the corn in the state is lost--totally fried. I've never seen anything close to this. The cornfields all around here look like someone took a torch to them.
I'm a bit mystified because the field in these Romney photos looks great. I saw many cornfields today and they were ell brown and withered.
Interesting about this farmer. He is a multimillionaire. He owns 40 farms and he is a big corporate farmer. He's also a real-estate mogul and a concert snd event promoter. He's certainly not a typical farmer. He lives in a huge, infamous house that looks lik a spaceship. It's huge and worth at least several million. That house is 15 minutes from our house and I've seen it many times. I can tell you thus much--that's a one percent farmer for sure.
Can Romney even try--for a few minutes--to meet with regular people???
"Ok guys, I need to meet with a farmer, but please, a regular guy. Someone with a large mansion, preferably in the shape of an exotic spacecraft. And please no old dirty farmers. You know that cheap flannel gives me hives."

(11,304 posts)mother-in-law showed me and as it would grow we go out and pull the weeds. Then we put fertilizer on them. Then when you have to pull the suckers out that grows by them. I didn't know that. At first I was cleaning the weeds out from around them. My mother-in-law laughed and asked me what I was doing. I told her weeding. She said I was weeding around the sucker that had to be pulled. We laughed our heads off.

(11,193 posts)Corn requires cross pollination. Typically, the edges of a corn field, especially the upwind side, don't get sufficient pollen for full fertilization. You find the fuller ears a few rows deeper into the field.
I see no evidence this field suffered any drought stress. I do see a lazy politician who only went only two steps into the field.
