Randy Travis: Drunk and Naked Christian Music Star THREATENS COP'S LIFE

Grammy-winning Christian music superstar Randy Travis was arrested just before midnight on Tuesday in north Texas after being found him drunk and naked near his wrecked truck some 60 miles north of Dallas. Though he was detained initially in Grayson County on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, a class B misdemeanor, Travis made the situation worse by reportedly threatening to murder a state trooper at the scene, incurring a third-degree felony charge of retaliation that typically carries up to 10 years in prison.

According to NBC DFW, Travis refused a breathalyzer test and subsequently had his blood drawn to determine his level of intoxication. Police said he had an open bottle of wine with in in the vehicle and was slurring his words. He was subsequently released on Wednesday after his girlfriend posted two bonds totaling nearly $22,000. Police said it was not clear why the famed musician was naked, and he suffered only minor cuts and bruises from the single-vehicle accident. Officers were first notified that something may be amiss by a clerk at a nearby store who claimed that Travis walked in completely naked and purchased cigarettes. Police said a second report from a motorist claimed Travis was found strewn across Farm to Market Road 922 near Tioga, Texas.

For Travis, whose long career in music has been celebrated by southern country fans and evangelical Christians alike, the arrest marks his second encounter with police this year after a DUI arrest in February. That’s in spite of an interview he gave to Christianity Today in 2009, in which he claimed that his faith in the Christian deity helped him quit drinking alcohol in his mid-20s.

The longtime country crooner has in the last decade reinvented himself as one of the most famous Christian musicians in the world, winning Grammy awards in 2005 and 2007 for the religious albums “Worthip & Faith” and “Glory Train.” Both albums also won the Gospel Music Association’s Dove awards, Travis has since released a “Greatest Hits” collection of songs inspired by Christianity.

He can drink himself into oblivion but do it at home, get a cab or a ride if you're at the bar.

Driving drunk, or otherwise impaired, is one of those things that I absolutely despise. No excuses. It's not like he'd simply kill himself, he can also kill innocent people sharing the road with his selfish, drunken arse. That's not living the very values you choose to sing about.

to an insanely intoxicated person. that would usually fall upon other people to watch for.

I know he is getting divorced but don't know if he has a girlfriend now or family or roommate around.
Although being stark naked and lying in the road shows he's way to gone for most people to control

The truly faithful can be cured of homosexuality, addictions, chronic diseases etc, if only they give their hearts to Jesus. So what you have are a bunch of formerly hopeful people, now jaded and addicted to religion, hiding their "short comings". I agree, sad.

A guy I know was at a resort one time at a conference. They were in motel-type rooms. He had a "few" drinks and went to bed. Woke up in the middle of the night wanting a smoke and realized he was all out. He remembered that there were cigarettes in the car, so, forgetting he was stark naked, ran outside to get them -- also forgetting to take both his car keys and his room key (there WAS alcohol involved). He got outside, couldn't get into the car, and then couldn't get back into his room. So here he was still a little toasted, stark naked, outside in the parking lot -- and there were mosquitoes, lots of them.

He finally had to cover himself with branches and get someone in another room to call the front office.

And, yes, I get the point of a Christian being a violent drunk is shock worthy. Still, this is his second alcohol related offense recently. I suspect the man has an addiction/abuse of alcohol problem.

What I have an issue with is that the man was driving while he was so plastered he crashed his car, forgot to get dressed and/or decided to remove his clothes in public, and thought it a good idea to threaten to shoot a police officer. He's fortunate the only person he hurt last night was himself. He may not be so lucky next time.

My guess would be he's in a state of depression because things aren't
like "the good ole days" when he was riding a lot higher than he is now.
He's drowning his sorrows, there might be a new C&W song in this.

star status.

Once you get behind the wheel of a 1500lbs - 2000lbs. steel weapon on wheels intoxicated, you are endangering the lives on innocent people like our families and friends who are responsible & respect drinking & driving laws. Those who have been injured or experienced loss of life as a result of drunken drivers will understand. The judge needs to be hard on Randy and force a stiff long term detox recovery program sentence with continued supervision. Thats getting off quite easy as far as I'm concerned. You or I would have been hog-tied and thrown in the vehicle if we entertained the same drunken shenanigans Randy displayed with the state trooper.

He was sitting in a parking lot of a church in his car drunk and got arrested for public intoxication. I know a person who drank too much on 6th street in Austin. After walking to their car they decided to sleep in the backseat, rather than drive home drunk. They were woke up a bit later and arrested for a DUI. It cost them a small fortune in legal fees to get the charges dropped.

We'll see what happens in this newest case. I suspect he's going to be heading to a rehab per his managers instructions long before this ever goes to trial.

I don't care if he's "battling a disease." Stay the fuck away from the steering wheel! My dearly departed dad was a cop and attended too many vehicular tragedies due to dui. He never ate black cherry jell-o again after a particularly gruesome accident. I never asked him why but I imagine what he saw was horrific. And this is Travis' SECOND one? Inexcusable, sorry.

There were tons of rumors around when he was a big country star that he was gay and that he married his female manager as a cover. It makes one wonder if there's any truth to the rumors and if so, it goes to show how having to hide your sexuality to have a country music career (or any other for that matter) can be destructive.
