VT Sec. of State @VermontSOSWere strongly opposed to Shopper ID laws. There has been no evidence that grocery fraud occurs on a widespread basis, and restrictive Shopper ID laws only serve to prevent eligible shoppers from buying their groceries on shopping day.

(8,514 posts)I can't even count how many recipes have been ruined because when I got to the checkout with my ingredients I found myself without my "picture on a card".
Someone should tell -45 that President Obama made that non-existent "law". It'd be a hoot to watch him try to repeal it.

(5,995 posts)Likely a dog whistle to his believers that the same folks bitching about ID keeping them from voting are those welfare leeches that are fighting drug testing as well.
Sarah's comment about beer and cigarettes is likely a stab at the same demographic because the White Wing thinks all manner of fraud is going on in SNAP & WIC.

This way, the state will partially fund the issuance of these IDs, which could be used for shopping (hahaha) legal ID, and for voting.
This way, those states that try and fuck people for registering to vote, perform voter purges, or force voter IDs will have no other recourse... everyone will need an ID, and become empowered to vote.
Now, I know that voter ID is a Jim Crow type law to suppress elderly, poor and mostly minority voters, but if everyone is forced to get a universal state ID to buy food, they're automatically registered to vote and have a state ID that proves it.
Just an early morning brain fart.

(4,341 posts)Read my other post, this is what dictatorships do, they use the IDs to control how much a family can buy every week, every month, they set up quotas.
The only solution is to get rid of all these criminals, the republicans must be removed from power, their evil has no limits, all they want is power.

(4,341 posts)This is how it started in Venezuela, the economy went to bust (this administration is doing its best to destroy the economy), the government started to hide the food in warehouses, sometimes letting it rot, and left the supermarkets and other food stores empty, then it implemented id cards to buy food which kept track of what each family bought, each family having a monthly quota of certain items, like four rolls of toilet paper per week for a family of six, little of everything to begin their plan of starving families.
The man-child may be setting up the stage to try to implement something like this in the USA, and when you least expect it? People are going to be making lines in front of super markets.
The man-child, Pence, and the GOP must go, these people are up to no good, there is evil in their ways, these are people who luck a sense of consequence, and everything to them that is bad is nothing but a means to an end.

(10,915 posts)but the rest of us already do this and we pay a yearly fee for the privilege.
I shop at CostCo.
I have to show my membership card before I can enter the store or use the gas pump.
Then when I'm checking out, I have to surrender my membership card to the cashier.
This is the only place where I'll do this.
I will not sign up for memberships at Von's (insert your grocery store here) or
CVS (insert your drugstore here) or Autozone (insert your auto parts store here)
or any other place requesting membership, because all they are doing is collecting
information about our shopping habits.
Think I'm kidding? Check out the back of the receipt after shopping at the grocery
store, and find out why you're being offered a coupon to purchase Coke, when you
just purchased Pepsi.

It would be fun to make up a registration form if I had time.
There would have to be a definition of what "groceries" means.
"How often do you buy groceries?"
"Do you buy groceries for anyone else?"
"Do you have a refrigerator?"

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
