General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWTF is going on with Choice Hotels and their stupid Badda-Book-Badda-Boom ad campaign?
Absolutely - the dumbest ad campaign I have ever seen.
It aired for quite sometime - before I even realized what they were selling.
These ads are annoying and stupid...
But - starting last week - I started getting "Suggested Posts" in my FB that were ads for Choice Hotels with the same badda-book character.
I really never travel, I don't fly - and if I do - I'm not staying in a hotel - or having anything to do with the hospitality biz...
Not only do their ads suck - now they are targeting the wrong demographic!
But - is there something more sinister here? Are they intentionally annoying us?
Look at the feedback/comments on their facebook ads - EVERYBODY HATES THEIR ADS!!!
Not one single positive comment.
So what is happening here...?
This can't be just lame-ness...this is on purpose!!!

Are the ads annoying? You bet they are. Do people remember them? Absolutely. Do they use the name of the hotel chain when they complain on their social media venues? Of course.
So, social media ads appear for that chain, because that's what people are talking about.
It is a very successful ad campaign. As long as you remember and talk about the name of the hotel chain, it has succeeded.
Lowest Price Guaranteed! Badabook, badaboom!
Such is the world of advertising and marketing.

(25,647 posts)i'm not a fan of ads or jingles, but i gotta give their marketing team some respect on this one -- quite clever. works as mnemonic device whether you like it or hate it.

That was years ago, but it is still an earworm that plagues me sometimes! I bet a lot of people bought the product after that ad came out.

I don't think I've been in a McDonalds in three decades, but I can roll that off the top of my head without even thinking. Same with BK and "have it your way". Ad jingles stick forever.
So when they say it works what do they mean? I remember the ad. But I aint buying

(4,835 posts)You literally have to force yourself to watch a whole commercial just to figure out what they are selling.
Maybe Xfinity is evesdropping on me - and hears me saying telling them to 'chut up!

(9,083 posts)I figure Choice may be targeting fans of The Sopranos and/or The Godfather with those commercials.

(6,524 posts)usually never fast enough. Another commercial I hate is Progressive Insurance. I would never buy their insurance since it shows their stupidity by making stupid commercials. How could I trust them?
MineralMan
(151,269 posts)I recently tweeted about Flo from Progressive, to make a point about marketing. I work in marketing these days, and tweet about it. So, not long after that tweet, Progressive ads started showing up in my Twitter feed. Why wouldn't they. I also tweeted about Jan from Toyota, another brand symbol that works very well. Sure enough, now i'm seeing Toyota ads.
Marketing is all about exposure, so any mention in a social media space attracts ads for products that were mentioned. That's the world we live in.

(151,269 posts)Choice Hotel ads, since the name is in a post title. Funny how that works. "Lowest Price - Guaranteed!" So, next time you need to book a stay, you'll remember that, too.

Gaining ground fast on being my most hated tv ad is this Applebee's one. When the vocalist starts scream-singing, it really irritates me.

(53,194 posts)The damn things are working: they're trying to get people to book through the Choice Hotels website instead of something like hotels.com or travelocity.com, and reservations through their own website (where they don't have to pay commission to a third-party website) are increasing faster than reservations through other methods.

(5,042 posts)Dont know that one.
The one that bothers my more is the freaking TIAA ad with people doing random shit like skydiving while Apache plays in the background. Its been running for almost a year now on both MSNBC and a lot of sports programming so I see it constantly. No one should be that brazen about their financial future nowadays so I have no idea who they are targeting there.
