August 9, 2018 at 7:40 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 10 Comments
Rudy Giuliani told Sean Hannity last night that the Mueller investigation should be over by September and that Muellers case isnt going to fizzle. Its going to blow up on them.
Jonathan Swan: The theater of going back and forth with Mueller is designed to create a public impression or at least an impression in the eyes of Republican voters that Mueller has personal animus towards Trump, and is trying to use legal trickery to steal the election from Trump voters. This is pure P.R.
Giuliani is publicly setting up Mueller with expectations he must know Mueller cant meet.
Theres no way Mueller is wrapping this thing up by Sept. 1. And theres no way Mueller will agree to an interview with Trump on the condition that he wont ask him two of the critical questions about obstruction of justice. By claiming them as totally reasonable asks, when Mueller ultimately doesnt deliver by Labor Day, Rudy helps fuel the bases rage all the way through to midterms.

(59,558 posts)1. This is silly. There is no "back and forth." There is only Rudy spitting
into the wind. This is not the imbecile "setting up expectations that Mueller can't meet." This is mouth dribbles from a crazy man, and Mueller, rightfully, is paying no attention to them whatsoever.

His refusal to sit for an interview convinces most non-cultists that he is guilty as sin. You've really only got like 15% to maybe 20% of the country believing his "witch hunt" nonsense anyway, so from a political/public relations perspective it ruins him to refuse the interview. Especially when everyone starts pointing out that Hillary didn't try to avoid her interview in the email investigation.
