Why is Crooked Collins retiring a good thing for us ?

Last edited Sat Aug 11, 2018, 02:47 PM - Edit history (1)

That's a heavily Republican district and a Republican who isn't a known crook will be harder to beat.

ON EDIT- The fact he retired also means he becomes less of a campaign issue as he's out of the public eye. It would have been better to keep him as a piñata. The fact he retired so quickly to me suggests he has some real criminal exposure.

1. His replacement won't have the advantage of incumbency or a big war chest

At the very least, this is another formerly safe seat the GOP will have to spend money to defend.

Under New York state election law, Collins' name could be taken off the ballot under certain narrowly defined circumstances that include death or being nominated for a different office.

He ain't dead.....yet......but the republicans are weighing all their options.

Republicans having to do a write in campaign for the new candidate is a lot harder and costlier.

Yes, his seat will stay in GOP hands. But these charges will add to the general feeling of disgust with the Trump swamp.

Granted, I didn't check the long thread but I assumed every post would express disappointment at this development.

You want an obvious crook to keep fighting and be on the defensive throughout, putting the district more in play and generally attaching even more negativity to the Republican side.

That district is not winnable with a replacement Republican on the ballot and is so lopsided I'm sure it won't matter if Collins' name remains on the ballot, which I gather from this thread. They'll coordinate some type of write-in campaign, like the one successful with Murkowski in Alaska.

If he wants, he can leave congress right now.

He will remain on the ballot

all corrupt and in it for themselves. This keeps happening over and over again. Sooner or later people are going to wake up and smell the corruption on the right. They can't get away with it forever. Even ignorant people tend to turn against known criminals. Trump is an exception, but I think he will go down eventually as well.
