Cost of living rises at fastest rate in decade

The cost of living in the U.S. is rising at its fastest rate in 10 years, according to new data from the Labor Department. The data, released Friday, revealed that consumer prices increased 2.9 percent in July from the year before, meaning Americans may be earning less than they did at this time last year.

Energy, medical care and apparel costs dropped in July, while food prices ticked up.

"Rising rents remain the source of inflation. This is driven by shortages of housing in desirable markets," Dean Baker, senior economist at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, told CBS News.

"Unfortunately, the downward trend in housing construction means that these shortages are unlikely to be addressed on the supply side in the foreseeable future."

getting them a raise in SS benefits. They blamed Obama when we got no raise a couple years. The f----g Republicons don't even understand the concept of inflation and cost of living.

I never blamed Obama,
and I sure as hell don't thank Trump.

Really sucks that anyone would say that.

blame Obama for them not getting a raise in their SS check while he was in office. I also heard many credit Trump because they got a 2% COLA last year. I am 70 years old and receive SS myself. I agree it does suck that anyone would say that.

Some would call it a 'blue state' as we currently have two Democratic US Senators.

But we had a republican Governor for 8 years,
and a Republican Mayor in Albuquerque for 8 years (until a year ago).
